Excerpt from Eastern Shore Nurseries, Denton, Caroline County, Maryland: Annual Price List and Catalogue; Fall of 1899-Spring of 1900 Plums still retain first place in my catalogue, because they are my leading specialty in both Nursery and Orchard. In the latter they have been incomparably more profitable than peaches, pears or apples. The collection, annually growing larger, is becoming somewhat burdensome, and has now reached a point, where it will be improved by a careful pruning. Varieties not likely to appear again in my catalogue will be so noted in this. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Annual Price List and Catalogue of the Eastern Shore Nurseries, Denton, Caroline County, Maryland: Fall of 1898, Spring 1899 Locality and soil are great factors in determining the value of all fruits. Demands and tastes differ widely in the various City markets. Fruit growers with good business sense, grow what they can sell to the best advantage and profit, and cater to the demands of the market. While yellow' peaches sell best at one place, white ones are most popular in another, and so it occurs that a large number of varieties are required by nurserymen to fill the wants of their customers in differ ent places. More than a thousand varieties of different kinds of fruit are on trial and under care on my own grounds. Annually the collection is enlarged more or less, by gathering in the reputed improvements in various lines, while at the same time, varieties that fair trial proved unsuited' and unprofitable are weeded out and discarded, without ever having reached a place in my Catalogue. Too many varieties, impair the value of commercial or market orchards, too few, is also injudicious. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
