Excerpt from Tenth Annual Catalogue, 1925-1926, Montreat Normal School for Young Women: Announcements, 1926-1927 It is the policy of the authorities to make this institution a home as well as a school. Thoughtful people, though they realize the advantages of a boarding school in the life of' a girl, regret to have their daughters lose the pleasure of home life. The Montreat Normal tries to make up for this loss to as great an extent as possible by making the school one big home. The teachers live in the dormi tory with the girls, eat at the same table with them, and join in all their recreation. This gives the teachers the opportunity of directing their work and play into the best channels. An effort is made to combine work and play in just the right proportion to get the most out of each. In the afternoon, the pupils spend at least one hour in playing some game, rowing or swimming, or hiking to some of the places of interest on the Montreat grounds.
