This thesis will comparatively discuss the works of artists Norman Rockwell and Andy Warhol in regards towards the concept of the American Dream. Norman Rockwell's career as an illustrator for The Saturday Evening Post was important in not only influencing the general American public, but also artists such as Andy Warhol who would make a great impact on the culture of post-WWII America. Although the majority of art historians consider Andy Warhol to be the more innovative of the two artists, as this thesis will demonstate, Warhol could not have been so successful had Norman Rockwell not existed previously. This thesis paper will demonstrate this through examining various works from each artist and the American culture during each of these artists' lifetimes.
