We discuss the direct measurement of the trilinear vector boson couplings in present and future collider experiments. The major goals of such experiments will be the confirmation of the Standard Model (SM) predictions and the search for signals of new physics. We review our current theoretical understanding of anomalous trilinear gauge-boson self interactions. If the energy scale of the new physics is[approximately] 1 TeV, these low energy anomalous couplings are expected to be no larger than[Omicron](10[sup[minus]2]). Constraints from high precision measurements at LEP and low energy charged and neutral current processes are critically reviewed.

A study of techniques for improving limits placed on anomalous trilinear couplings of electroweak gauge bosons is presented. Electroweak gauge bosons couple to one another as well as to fermions. Deviations of these couplings from their standard model values would be a sign of new physics. Parameters that affect the couplings of the gauge bosons to each other also affect their helicity, which in turn may be measured from their decay products. Angles between the decay planes of the gauge bosons, as well as between their decay products, are measured. The analysis uses 35.9 fb 8́21 of proton-proton collision data from the LHC taken with the CMS detector. Building on a prior analysis that measured the fiducial cross section of pp 6́2 W W/W Z 6́2 lÎưjj, we show that angular variables can improve limits on anomalous couplings even further.

Extension of the Standard model can enhance the interactions between four vector bosons, so the couplings deviate from their predicted value due to new quartic-gauge-boson interactions. Searches for those deviations are model-independent and cover a wide range of possible new physics. This thesis describes the measurement of exclusive production of W-boson pairs and the search for WW\gamma\gamma anomalous quartic gauge couplings at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) using a data set corresponding to 20.2 fb-1 of proton-proton collisions collected by the ATLAS detector in 2012. This analysis considers the W+W- decay modes leading to e\mu leptons. At the LHC, exclusive interactions are characterized by the absence of additional activity in the vicinity of interaction vertices. A technique based on tracks was developed to select the exclusive event candidates. The technique accepts approximately 60% of the signal, while eliminates most of the background due to suppression by 3--4 orders of magnitude. Additional background reduction is achieved by rejecting the region pT^{e\mu}
