According to the Global Burden of Disease, nearly a quarter (24.8 per cent) of all deaths in India is due to CVDs. Countering the epidemic requires the development of strategies such as the formulation and effective implementation of evidencebased policy, reinforcement of health systems, and emphasis on prevention, early detection, and treatment with the use of both conventional and innovative techniques. By understanding the complex relationship between diet and disease, new prevention measures can be established and millions of lives can be saved. Featuring the most current knowledge from authoritative sources, AN INSIGHT TO THE IMPACT OF NUTRITION IN CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES reviews the impact of nutrition and diet in the identification, prevention and treatment of heart disease. The book explains the beneficial effects of novel biochemical parameters in the screening of the progression of there disease, the unavoidable risk factors associated with cardiovascular diseases, how dietcan increase as well as reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, discusses the protocol of prevention, identification and treatment, that can beeffectively used for the betterment of the cardiac health in populations around the world. Providing insight into myriad medical risk factors and dietary factors related to cardiovascular disease, the book also addresses the ways that novel biochemical parameters used for the screening of the disease directly influence the treatment and also heart health. This comprehensive desk reference will benefit nutrition and cardiovascular researchers, primary care physicians, and dietitians in the race to reduce this deadly disease.

The Impact of Nutrition and Statins on Cardiovascular Diseases presents a summary of the background information and published research on the role of food in inhibiting the development of cardiovascular diseases. Written from a food science, food chemistry, and food biochemistry perspective, the book provides insights on the origin of cardiovascular diseases, an analysis of statin therapy, their side effects, and the role of dietary intervention as an alternative solution to preventing cardiovascular diseases. It focuses on the efficacy of nutrition and statins to address inflammation and inhibit the onset of disease, while also providing nutrition information and suggested dietary interventions. Includes a bioscience approach that focuses on inflammation and revisits the lipid hypothesis Presents the view that nutritional interventions have considerable value, not only for reducing cardiovascular risk for CVDs patients, but also acting as the best precaution for otherwise healthy people Advocates that nutritional habits that are formed at a young age are the best way to tackle the global epidemic that is CVDs

There is unequivocal experimental, epidemiological, and clinical evidence demonstrating a correlation between diet and increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). While nutritionally-poor diets can have a significant negative impact on cardiovascular health, dietary interventions with specific nutrients and/or functional foods are considered cost-effective and efficient components of prevention strategies. It has been estimated that nutritional factors may be responsible for approximately 40% of all CVD. Indeed, in one of the seminal studies conducted on modifiable risk factors and heart health (the INTERHEART study), >90% of all myocardial infarctions were attributed to preventable environmental factors with nutrition identified as one of the important determinants of CVD. There is an increasing public interest in and scientific investigation into establishing dietary approaches that can be undertaken for the prevention and treatment of CVD. This Special Issue provides an insight into the influential role of nutrition and dietary habits on cardiovascular health and disease, as well as their mechanisms of therapeutic and preventive action.

Heart disease is the primary cause of death and disability in Western countries. Research indicates that nutrition and diet play key roles in both preventing and causing many types of heart damage and dysfunction. By understanding the complex relationship between diet and disease, new prevention measures can be established and millions of lives can be saved. Featuring the most current knowledge from authoritative sources, Diet and Heart Disease: Causation and Prevention reviews the impact of nutrition and diet in the prevention and treatment of heart disease. The book explains how dietary agents such as fats and alcohol can increase as well as reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, discusses the effects of various nutrients, and presents information on special diets that have been known to affect cardiac health in populations around the world. Providing insight into myriad dietary factors related to cardiovascular disease, the text also addresses the ways that nutrition intervention and treatment directly influence heart health. This comprehensive desk reference will benefit nutrition and cardiovascular researchers, primary care physicians, and dietitians in the race to reduce this deadly disease.

This book discusses all aspects of non-pharmacologic approaches to primary and secondary CVD prevention. It highlights the strength of evidence for particular diet styles in CVD prevention, including plant-based diets, the Mediterranean diet, the DASH diet, and low-carbohydrate diets. Chapters present evidence and future directions for diet and nutrition in diseases related to CVD, such as dyslipidemia, cardiometabolic disease (pre-diabetes, the metabolic syndrome, type-2 diabetes mellitus), and obesity. Finally, the book reviews novel and emerging aspects of dietary intervention in CVD prevention, such as dietary approaches to inflammation and the role of the microbiome in CVD. Up-to-date, evidence-based, and clinically oriented, Prevention and Treatment of Cardiovascular Disease: Nutritional and Dietary Approaches is an essential resource for physicians, residents, fellows, and medical students in cardiology, clinical nutrition, family medicine, endocrinology, and lipidology.

Despite 40 years of aggressive pharmaceutical and surgical interventions, coronary artery disease remains the number one killer of women and men in Western civilization. Cardiovascular disease, more than ever, demonstrates the landscape has changed so significantly, that new information must be given to the young and old health professionals seeing patients on a day to day basis. Dr. Sinatra has 40 plus years of experience in cardiovascular disease and is board-certified in internal medicine and cardiology. Dr. Mark Houston practices integrative nutritional preventive cardiology and has superb expertise in hypertension, and dyslipidemia which are major factors in the genesis of cardiovascular disease. The information in this book will give doctors-to-be, and even doctors-that-are the overlooked information they need for a balanced approach to cardiovascular treatment that includes a healing/healthy diet, nutritional supplementation, exercise and weight management. Those are crucial and powerful additions to the toolbox with which to maintain health and fix problems. That’s the integrative approach that Dr. Sinatra, Dr Houston and his fellow authors, have been using with great success for decades. The Table of Contents shows a true revision – all new material – this is more of a companion volume to the original edition.
