This wonderful work, “Tears for Jerusalem,” is a pastoral and compassionate demonstration of the lamentation of a tender-hearted Savior over a rebellious people rejecting the Gospel. Brinsley taught this subject during a national time of solemn humiliation in 1655. His principle text is Luke 19:41-42, “And when he was come near, he beheld the City and wept over it. This study punctures the stereotyped portrayals of Marlowe, first created by his rival Robert Greene, and, yet, which still colour our view.
