DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis report examines the problem of developing a high speed, compact performance prediction model for use in estimating operational performance of active, surface ship sonar systems. Such a model must be suitable for use on computers typically available at Navy laboratories and Fleet shore facilities. An active sonar performance prediction model was developed. A concomitant computer program was written in FORTRAN IV and can provide detection outputs for a single system and environment in less than two minutes using a second generation computer, e.g., CDC 1604, IBM 7090, and UNIVAC 1230. This time is reduced by about one-tenth on newer machines, e.g., CDC 6500, IBM 360, and UNIVAC 1108.
