The thinner strands of wire are the more thoroughly imbedded into the plaster, even if only worked from one side, and therefore the more perfectly protected from weather and damp. On the other hand, some claim that the smaller section area Offered by the wire is the more easily corroded by the dampness that must be absorbed by the protecting mortar during a long-continued spell of rainy weather; and that its greater exibility makes the cracking Of plas ter from that cause the more certain. Both metal and wire may be galvanized, which adds to their cost, but the covering of both may be scratched away or injured; and an Opening crack in one, or the untwisting, or breaking apart of a welded joint in the other, would let the moisture into a vulnerable spot. Changed by the President of the United States to conform in grade and location to the scheme of the Park Commissioners for the development of the city; the appointment by President Roosevelt of Mr. Bernard R. Green, Superintendent of the Library of Congress, and the mem bers of the Park Commission as an Advisory Commission upon which all of the executive departments of the Government sha'j call before locating buildings or adopting the character of their design; that the American Academy in Rome has been incorporated by' an act of Con gress, and has engaged offices in the Octagon; and that the fund of announced at the banquet of last year has been increased to The Board of Directors' report lays particular stress upon the International Congress of Architects, to be held in London next July, and urges the members of the profession in the United States to make every effort to attend the Congress, suggesting that some arrange ment be made by which the delegates and visitors may secure passage on the same steamer. The subject of competitions has been carefully studied, and the Directors suggest that if members refrained from eu tering improper competitions the whole question would solve itself.
