A dark, sexy, and wickedly funny new enemies-to-lovers romance for readers of Laura Thalassa, Sarah J. Maas, Kerri Maniscalco, and Jennifer L. Armentrout. A siren who must stay silent to survive. An executioner with a bounty he cannot kill. Lu has been living a quiet, undercover life as a vampire hidden in the quaint village of Sanford. Afraid that her voice will give her secrets away, Lu has lived for years without words, speaking only to the one witch she can trust. Except, of course, when it's time to hunt. When it comes to luring in her victims, no song is sweeter than Lu's. But when Lu's hunt is interrupted by Ashen, a mysterious and striking Reaper of the Shadow Realm, it seems like fate has finally caught up with her. An executioner with a soul to claim, Ashen doesn't realize he's stumbled on the bounty of an immortal lifetime until it's too late. As the two enemies are forced to work together to solve a crime that shouldn't be possible, it's more than just secrets that emerge between them. With every moment that passes, Lu finds it harder and harder to live like a shadow among her enemies, especially the enigmatic demon she's bound to. She might just be a little bored of living the quiet life. But for Lu, nothing is more inseparable than danger and desire. ...And there are few creatures in any realm more dangerous than Ashen. *mature themes, including violence, strong language, & sexual content*

Quinn has a rare and powerful gift, one that manifested from the rage and trauma of her harrowing childhood. Years later, the anger she can't let go of makes her an unpredictable and dangerous weapon of last resort for a kingdom on the brink of war. Diviners like Quinn are venerated yet feared, protected yet exploited. Bonded to the Queen, they are forced to endure hardship and sacrifice to protect her empire. After a near loss in a key battle and the death of the Diviner of Fire, the Queen calls for aid from the elite soldiers of the allied territories to the East. A striking warrior named Kiran is assigned to protect and train Quinn, and as the pair become close despite the rules that bind them, they discover that the enemies within are just as dangerous as the ones at the gates. Time is running out for Quinn to harness her power. The enemy is closing in around them. Impossible sacrifices haunt every decision Quinn makes. As she fights to keep what little she's claimed as hers, Quinn learns that her destiny might not lie in the hands of fates or kingdoms, but in her own. Praise for The Diviner "The Diviner is a wonderfully immersive fantasy set in a carefully crafted magical world and is as much a deeply emotional love story as a suspenseful adventure. The slow burn became an inferno." - W.D. Henning, author of Paradise Blight and Dark Fall "The Diviner is intricately written, and not like any fantasy story you've read before. This book will get you hooked and you'll build special connections with the characters... (you'll) love Quinn of course, but you'll also fall in love with Kiran, Skye, Adri, and Rolfe. The Diviner is worth the read - every second you spend on it is not wasted." - Aina Untalan, author of Exes and Ohs "Quinn is an actual badass instead of being a damsel in distress, which I hardly ever get to see in books." - Court of Miracles Awards (Finalist) "Fans of fantasy romance series like From Blood And Ash and A Discovery of Witches will love The Diviner." - D. Samms

In the Shadows of the State suggests that well-meaning indigenous rights and development claims and interventions may misrepresent and hurt the very people they intend to help. It is a powerful critique based on extensive ethnographic research in Jharkhand, a state in eastern India officially created in 2000. While the realization of an independent Jharkhand was the culmination of many years of local, regional, and transnational activism for the rights of the region’s culturally autonomous indigenous people, Alpa Shah argues that the activism unintentionally further marginalized the region’s poorest people. Drawing on a decade of ethnographic research in Jharkhand, she follows the everyday lives of some of the poorest villagers as they chase away protected wild elephants, try to cut down the forests they allegedly live in harmony with, maintain a healthy skepticism about the revival of the indigenous governance system, and seek to avoid the initial spread of an armed revolution of Maoist guerrillas who claim to represent them. Juxtaposing these experiences with the accounts of the village elites and the rhetoric of the urban indigenous-rights activists, Shah reveals a class dimension to the indigenous-rights movement, one easily lost in the cultural-based identity politics that the movement produces. In the Shadows of the State brings together ethnographic and theoretical analyses to show that the local use of global discourses of indigeneity often reinforces a class system that harms the poorest people.

Clara Lugo grew up in a home that would have rattled the most grounded of children. Through brains and determination, she has long since slipped the bonds of her confining Dominican neighborhood in the northern reaches of Manhattan. Now she tries to live a settled professional life with her American husband and son in the suburbs of New Jersey—often thwarted by her constellation of relatives who don’t understand her gringa ways. Her mostly happy life is disrupted, however, when Tito, a former boyfriend from fifteen years earlier, reappears. Something has impeded his passage into adulthood. His mother calls him an Unfinished Man. He still carries a torch for Clara; and she harbors a secret from their past. Their reacquaintance sets in motion an unraveling of both of their lives and reveals what the cost of assimilation—or the absence of it—has meant for each of them. This immensely entertaining novel—filled with wit and compassion—marks the debut of a fine writer.
