A multielement evolved gas analysis technique for the simultaneous determination of up to eight elements is described. The results obtained in one analysis are a quantitative composition in terms of the elements carbon (C), hydrogen (H), nitrogen (N), sulfur (S), chlorine (Cl), bromine (Br), iodine (I) and fluorine (F), and a distribution of these elements as a function of the evolution temperature. Determinations for which the system is used include the amount, composition and volatility of, for instance, kerogen materials, the amount of fixed carbon (coke) on catalysts, or the thermal stability of polymers. The instrument has become an indispensable tool in the screening of materials, in compositional analysis, and in kinetic studies.

volved gas analysis (EGA) describes analysis of gases or volatile components evolved from a sample undergoing thermal analysis. It is often used in direct combination with chemical analysis techniques such as gas chromatography, IR spectroscopy, or mass spectrometry, and/or with thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), i.e. measuring the change in weight of the sample under controlled conditions. This book focuses on these so-called "hyphenated techniques" (EGA-TGA, TGA-GC/MS, etc.), which allow a great deal of chemical information about a sample to be revealed quickly and conveniently. The methods are highly applicable to polymer/plastics samples, but also to other materials including pharmaceuticals, biomass, and various organic and inorganic compounds. Examples of applications related to all these material types are provided in this book. This book provides practical help to anyone interested in the practical aspects of EGA-TGA, including those working in testing laboratories and their clients.

The broadest source of information on analytical ICP spectrometry available in a coherent, single volume. Renowned contributors define theory, diagnostics, models, instrumentation and applications. They also discuss atomic emission, atomic fluorescence and mass spectrometries based on ICP sources for atomization, excitation and ionization. 'This book is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.' Analytical Chemistry '... a handy reference for anyone attempting to understand the theory of ICPs and how they work. The detailed discussions of the various types of instrumentation and methods will be quite helpful to students and researchers in the field who want to broaden their understanding of analytical atomic spectroscopy.' Applied Spectroscopy '...Everyone involved in elemental analysis using ICP should have this book. It is useful for both experienced and novice ICP spectroscopists.' Spectroscopy
