DOWNLOAD EBOOKSheffield 6 is a part of Sheffield which developed with the industrial revolution. From a few scattered rural settlements it grew to feature dense suburban housing. In the seventeenth century there were along the rivers both dwellings and small work places where knives were 'manufactured'.The water power was harnessed to turn water wheels that ran the machinery of the day. Today the suburb is largely lived in by ordinary working people but still there are the individual houses which were home to Lords of the Manor or those who were the managers of the firms which employed large numbers of those who lived in the newly built terraced housing which is such a feature of the locality. The book tells the story of some of the old houses and looks at factors which contributed to the making of the terraced and semi detached homes that line the many streets of the locality. In addition there are 'snapshots' of some of those who have lived in these homes.
