Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1 957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 28 (thesis year 1 983) a total of 10,661 theses titles from 26 Canadian and 197 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 28 reports theses submitted in-1983, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

25th European Symposium on Computer-Aided Process Engineering contains the papers presented at the 12th Process Systems Engineering (PSE) and 25th European Society of Computer Aided Process Engineering (ESCAPE) Joint Event held in Copenhagen, Denmark, 31 May - 4 June 2015. The purpose of these series is to bring together the international community of researchers and engineers who are interested in computing-based methods in process engineering. This conference highlights the contributions of the PSE/CAPE community towards the sustainability of modern society. Contributors from academia and industry establish the core products of PSE/CAPE, define the new and changing scope of our results, and future challenges. Plenary and keynote lectures discuss real-world challenges (globalization, energy, environment, and health) and contribute to discussions on the widening scope of PSE/CAPE versus the consolidation of the core topics of PSE/CAPE. - Highlights how the Process Systems Engineering/Computer-Aided Process Engineering community contributes to the sustainability of modern society - Presents findings and discussions from both the 12th Process Systems Engineering (PSE) and 25th European Society of Computer-Aided Process Engineering (ESCAPE) Events - Establishes the core products of Process Systems Engineering/Computer Aided Process Engineering - Defines the future challenges of the Process Systems Engineering/Computer Aided Process Engineering community

Based on course-tested material, this rigorous yet accessible graduate textbook covers both fundamental and advanced optimization theory and algorithms. It covers a wide range of numerical methods and topics, including both gradient-based and gradient-free algorithms, multidisciplinary design optimization, and uncertainty, with instruction on how to determine which algorithm should be used for a given application. It also provides an overview of models and how to prepare them for use with numerical optimization, including derivative computation. Over 400 high-quality visualizations and numerous examples facilitate understanding of the theory, and practical tips address common issues encountered in practical engineering design optimization and how to address them. Numerous end-of-chapter homework problems, progressing in difficulty, help put knowledge into practice. Accompanied online by a solutions manual for instructors and source code for problems, this is ideal for a one- or two-semester graduate course on optimization in aerospace, civil, mechanical, electrical, and chemical engineering departments.

This book is a collection of selected accepted papers of Mendel conference that has been held in Brno, Czech Republic in June 2015. The book contents three chapters which represent recent advances in soft computing including intelligent image processing and bio-inspired robotics.: Chapter 1: Evolutionary Computing, and Swarm intelligence, Chapter 2: Neural Networks, Self-organization, and Machine Learning, and Chapter3: Intelligent Image Processing, and Bio-inspired Robotics. The Mendel conference was established in 1995, and it carries the name of the scientist and Augustinian priest Gregor J. Mendel who discovered the famous Laws of Heredity. In 2015 we are commemorating 150 years since Mendel's lectures, which he presented in Brno on February and March 1865. The main aim of the conference was to create a periodical possibility for students, academics and researchers to exchange their ideas and novel research methods.

New Optimization Algorithms and Applications: Atom-Based, Ecosystem-Based and Economics-Based presents the development of three new optimization algorithms - an Atom Search Optimization (ASO) algorithm, an Artificial Ecosystem-Based Optimization algorithm (AEO), a Supply Demand Based Optimization (SDO), and their applications within engineering. These algorithms are based on benchmark functions and typical engineering cases. The book describes the algorithms in detail and demonstrates how to use them in engineering. The title verifies the performance of the algorithms presented, simulation results are given, and MATLAB® codes are provided for the methods described. Over seven chapters, the book introduces ASO, AEO and SDO, and presents benchmark functions, engineering problems, and coding. This volume offers technicians and researchers engaged in computer and intelligent algorithm work and engineering with one source of information on novel optimization algorithms. - Presents three novel optimization algorithms for engineering - Gives various applications and design examples for each algorithm - Provides simulation results to verify algorithm performance - Includes MATLAB® codes for optimization methods - Describes the mathematical models needed

This new volume explores the computational intelligence techniques necessary to carry out different software engineering tasks. Software undergoes various stages before deployment, such as requirements elicitation, software designing, software project planning, software coding, and software testing and maintenance. Every stage is bundled with a number of tasks or activities to be performed. Due to the large and complex nature of software, these tasks can become costly and error prone. This volume aims to help meet these challenges by presenting new research and practical applications in intelligent techniques in the field of software engineering. Computational Intelligence Applications for Software Engineering Problems discusses techniques and presents case studies to solve engineering challenges using machine learning, deep learning, fuzzy-logic-based computation, statistical modeling, invasive weed meta-heuristic algorithms, artificial intelligence, the DevOps model, time series forecasting models, and more.
