Dissension is brewing between the clans in Zomb Valley. The Dactyla’s, a once peaceful herd of mystical herbivores are willing to starve in order to break the curse. On the other hand the Polycerate clan is willing to kill in order to keep the curse alive. From the author: Zomb Valley was created specifically for a flash fiction challenge. The challenge was a 1200 word limit about unicorn zombies. Sounds crazy, right? Of course it does but we all need a little challenge from time to time, that’s why I wrote it. Well that and the heckling dares of a fifteen year old.The cover is mixed media and was a gift from the late Tex Henson. The poem 'We're Unicorns' was published in Interior Verse Plus Pose Prose & Poems. I confess this is not my usual forte and exhausts the scope of my unicorn knowledge but it was fun and that should always be at the heart of reading and writing.

Between the stock market crash, a rich man’s greed and the Navarro County drought an indentured slave is left with few [if any] choices. Jamison Baines Weir is born the son of a sharecropper where hard times and sorrow are a way of life. It is a way of life Jamie never questions until famine and malice force him to leave the dying farm and follow a path that leads to murder and mystery. All eyes were on Wall Street, but truth be told, the market crash paled in comparison to the Navarro County drought. A Form of Free Slavery? Sharecroppers were provided land for farming, shelter for their family, equipment and credit for living expenses until the harvest. The sharecropper provided labor - his only resource. After the harvest they settled up, the landowner received three-fourths of the profit and the sharecropper one fourth. Of course the sharecropper's share went toward paying his credit bill and often he was left owing so he had little choice but to stay on the farm, do it again and try to produce more so he could get out of debt, but debt was always waiting at the end of the row. Excerpt: A coward dies a thousand deaths; a brave man dies but once. Tom considered the modern adage and decided he preferred William Shakespeare’s version. A thousand wouldn’t cover it for him. He had longed for death at least that many times since the age of ten; by the age of forty he had quit counting.

Zombie stories are peculiarly American, as the creature was born in the New World and functions as a reminder of the atrocities of colonialism and slavery. The voodoo-based zombie films of the 1930s and '40s reveal deep-seated racist attitudes and imperialist paranoia, but the contagious, cannibalistic zombie horde invasion narrative established by George A. Romero has even greater singularity. This book provides a cultural and critical analysis of the cinematic zombie tradition, starting with its origins in Haitian folklore and tracking the development of the subgenre into the twenty-first century. Closely examining such influential works as Victor Halperin's White Zombie, Jacques Tourneur's I Walked with a Zombie, Lucio Fulci's Zombi 2, Dan O'Bannon's The Return of the Living Dead, Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later, and, of course, Romero's entire "Dead" series, it establishes the place of zombies in the Gothic tradition. Instructors considering this book for use in a course may request an examination copy here.

In the third book of his Zombie series, Scott Kenemore brings the explosive horror thriller of an undead outbreak in the city of Indianapolis. Zombie, Indiana takes place during the same timeline as the outbreaks in his books Zombie, Ohio and Zombie, Illinois, and has the same punch as the previous two. Zombie, Indiana explores the impact of an invading zombie horde on a trio of Hoosier protagonists . . . each of whom have some dark secrets to keep. When the governor’s daughter mysteriously disappears on a field trip, IMPD Special Sergeant James Nolan, scholarship student Kesha Washington, and Governor Hank Burleson must all come together not only to find the governor’s daughter, but also to undertake a quest to redeem the very soul of the state itself . . . all while under constant attack from the living dead. With humorous, memorable characters, tense action sequences, and brutal zombie violence, Zombie, Indiana will put readers in mind of some of the most compelling works of popular fiction. The zombie apocalypse had done a horrific number on the world a few years earlier, but somehow the state of Montana had come through better than most places in what had once been America. They had a working electrical grid, were able to manufacture diesel fuel, and had a passable government protected by a mostly green National Guard. Sure, there were still dead heads stumbling about, but not anything like what filled the huge urban areas. Up in GOB (Good Ol Boy) land, the survivors had cobbled together a semblance of what most had lost. Ted, a verbose ex-Gulf War veteran, worked for Zombie Express, the main trucking company that was helping stitch together the widespread groups of survivors. He left most of the driving to his partner, a fortyish black woman who furtively referred to him as the Old White Dude. They had a professional respect for each otherof sorts. Having been of roughly retirement age in the world of before, Teds attitude with her was a bit dated, and she did not appreciate all the sexual innuendos. All in all, they did their best to survive the aftermath of the apocalypse . . . and each other.
