The third chapter of the Bhagavad-Gita deals with karma, or action. In this chapter the importance of right action as yagya is explained by Lord Krishna and His action for the sake of maintaining the worlds is described. Arjuna asks about wrong action and what compels men to commit it. Krishna answers that it is desire and the resultant anger that arises when desire cannot be fulfilled that is the cause of wrong action. Many commentators on the Gita have blamed desire for all problems in life and have advocated shunning desire, but that is a faulty interpretation. Desire is necessary for life to progress and evolve. The understanding that desires must not be shunned, but rather must be fulfilled is explained in the book, ‘Thirty Years Around The World. Dawn of the Age of Enlightenment. Volume One. 1957-1964’ in which Maharishi states: “If spirituality is to help the man of the 20th century, it must appear in a new garb to attract the modern eye and not frighten material life. If a spiritual technique of living the elevated material life is evolved, the modern taste would go for it. If the glories of the soul could be lived and enjoyed in the midst of the material glories of life, modern taste would love to have it...." Many aspire to be Karma Yogis, so they engage in the various activities (karmas) prescribed for that style of living. But to be a Karma Yogi one must first gain the state of Yoga by transcending relativity to arrive at Absolute Bliss Consciousness. The state of Yoga is easily attained through Maharishi Bhavatit Dhyan (Transcendental Meditation). See: https://www.indiatm.org/

Many of us are starting to become tired of this game of life. We have been comparing and striving all our life. But no matter how much success we have achieved—we are still hollow and still have found nothing fulfilling. We don’t even know if happiness exists because it is no longer a living thing in our experience—it has become dead, as we only know it as a concept or memory. We have sought self-help advice, philosophies, and religious teachings to transform ourselves but have not gotten anywhere. We have made some superficial improvements—like adopting a new mindset—but our core remains the same. We are still competitive, still fearful, and we get disturbed all the time. The problem with all attempts at self-improvement is that we do not address the fundamental problem, which is: who is the “you” who needs to be improved? We do not see that the one who is making the improvement is the same one who needs to be improved. The more we try to improve, the more conflict we introduce, within and without. The more knowledge we stuff in our heads, the more we become trapped in a conceptual prison of reality. Inevitably, the more confused we get in life. The book guides the reader out of their distorted beliefs to experience reality beyond the mind. When the deeper intelligence is allowed to flourish without our mind's interference, then the game of life becomes effortless.

The most important aspect of our existence is that every living thing is subject to two forms of evolutionary trends. One is physical, which deals with the investigation of nature by means of science and technology. The other is spiritual, which requires an investigation of nature through perceptive power, commonly achieved through meditative practices. In Spiritual Wisdom, author Ramesh Malhotra explores the evolution of the attainment of spiritual knowledge and inner tranquility and peace. Through practical examples of how to apply these spiritual principles to everyday life, he provides insight into the four tenets of eternal wisdom: mythological wisdom, inspirational wisdom, transcendental wisdom, and absolute truth. He provides an overview of the history of spiritual wisdom, the elements of lower and higher knowledge, and the process of self-revitalization. Providing an in-depth investigation and discussion of the spiritual knowledge and guidance found within the Bhagavad Gita, Malhotra encourages further exploration of spiritual wisdom and enlightenment in order to bring peace, tranquility, and happiness to every life journey.

A comprehensive manual for living a spiritual life, based on a verse-by-verse commentary on India’s timeless scripture – from the author of its best-selling translation. This ebook includes all three volumes in this series. The Bhagavad Gita is set on the battlefield of an apocalyptic war between good and evil. Faced with a dire moral dilemma, the warrior prince Arjuna turns in anguish to his spiritual guide, Sri Krishna, for answers to the fundamental questions of life. Easwaran points out that Arjuna’s crisis is acutely modern. The Gita’s battlefield is the struggle for self-mastery that every human being must wage. Arjuna represents each of us, and Sri Krishna is the Lord, instructing us in eighteen chapters of lofty wisdom as we face the social, environmental, and global challenges that threaten our world today. Easwaran is a spiritual teacher and author of deep insight and warmth. His verse-by-verse commentary interprets the Gita’s teachings for modern readers, explaining the Sanskrit concepts and philosophy and applying them with practicality, wisdom, and humor to every aspect of our work, our relationships, and our lives. With everyday anecdotes, stories, and examples, he shows that the changes we long to see in the world start with the transformation of our own consciousness. The practical exercises recommended by Easwaran to achieve transformation are part of a spiritual program he developed for his own life. They are accessible to people from all backgrounds and cultures. Urging us to adopt a higher image of the human being, he assures us that peace and unity are within reach. Each volume of this series covers six chapters of the Gita. Each may be read on its own, but all three volumes together form an in-depth, verse-by-verse explanation of this ancient scripture and its relevance today. Included are instructions in Easwaran's universal eight-point program of passage meditation. Volume 1: The first six chapters of the Gita explore the concept of the innermost Self and source of wisdom in each of us. Easwaran explains how we can begin to transform ourselves, even as householders engaged in busy lives. Volume 2: The next six chapters of the Gita go beyond the individual Self to explore the Supreme Reality underlying all creation. Easwaran builds a bridge across the seeming divide between scientific knowledge and spiritual wisdom, and explains how the concept of the unity of life can help us in all our relationships. Volume 3: The final six chapters put forth an urgent appeal for us to begin to see that all of us are one – to make the connection between the Self within and the Reality underlying all creation. Global in scope, the emphasis is on what we can do to make a difference to heal our environment and establish peace in the world. Easwaran’s commentary is for all students of the Gita, whatever their background, and for anyone who is trying to find a path to wisdom, love, and kindness in themselves and our troubled world. Written as an authoritative, accessible guide to a much-loved scripture, it is a handbook for finding peace and clarity within. This second edition incorporates revisions made across all three volumes following the author’s final instructions.

This book shows how the Bhagavad Gītā (part of the great Indian epic — the Mahābhārata) can be approached as a powerful tool for change management and as a catalyst for organizational transformation. It presents time-tested leadership strategies drawn from the Bhagavad Gītā that are relevant for today’s leaders. This book focuses on how to harmonize the needs of the individual with the needs of society, and by extension, how to harmonize the needs of employees and the organization. It employs an inside-out leadership development approach based on Self-knowledge and Self-mastery, the two highly important areas for practicing effective Self-leadership. The Gītā is a non-sectarian spiritual text with a universal message for living a life of meaning, purpose, and contribution and for leading from our authentic self. It shows how to manage oneself, as a necessary prelude to leading others. Students and organizational leaders will learn to integrate leadership function more effectively into all aspects at the individual, team, and institutional level.
