DOWNLOAD EBOOKA state-of-the-art assessment of research, demonstration, and commercial projects that involve the use of power plant condenser cooling water for agricultural and aquacultural purposes was conducted. Information was obtained from published literature, site visits, and communications with knowledgeable individuals. Thermal effluent uses were discussed for controlled environment greenhouses, biological recycling of nutrients from livestock manures, soil heating and irrigation, environmental control for livestock housing, grain drying, food processing, as well as the culture of numerous aquatic organisms. A large number of research and feasibility studies have been conducted, but few commercial enterprises are utilizing thermal effluent. Interfacing problems, environmental and legal restrictions, along with insufficient technology, have not allowed widespread commercial application. Specific research needs were discussed.
