William Pieterse Van Slyck or Neefie (b. 1635), son of Pieter van Slijck, was born in Beverwijck, N. Holl., the Netherlands. He was married to Baertie (1636-1699) in 1658 in Kinderhook, Columbia, New York. She was born in Kinderhook, and died in Albany, Albany, N.Y. Their seven children were all born in New York. Descendants live in New York, Wisconsin, Washington, Michigan and elsewhere. Includes allied family of Nelson/Nielsen originally of Gudbjerg, Svendborg Co. and elsewhere in Denmark and later in Washington and elsewhere. The early ancestor, Niels Nielsen/Nels Nelson (ca. 1827-1891), was born in Gudbjerg parish, Svendborg Co., Denmark and died in Spokane, Spokane, Washington. He married 1856 Karen Johanne Pedersdatter (1835-1917) in Gudbjerg. She was born in Vejstrup, Svendborg Co., Denmark, the daughter of Peder Hansen and Marie Hansdatter. They were parents of nine children born between 1858 and ca. 1878 in Gudbjerg parish.

The Von Gochnat family were landowners of Alsace under the Germans before 1697, when the area has handed over to France. Some of the family immigrated to Massachusetts. Michael Van Koughnet (1751- 1832), a loyalist, settled in Cornwall, Canada. Descendants were active in the Canadian government and prominent in overseas military expeditions to Egypt, South Africa, and elsewhere. (Name was changed from Von Gochnat to van Koughnet by some descendants).
