DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe Apollo 11 Mission, primarily designed to land men on the Moon and return them safely to Earth, signaled a new phase of the manned space program. Based on the success of Apollo 11, the first of a series of missions designed for the systematic exploration of the Moon was successfully accomplished on Apollo 12. The fact that the Apollo 12 astronauts were able to achieve a pinpoint landing at a preselected site, and then spend an extended time on the lunar surface, graphically illustrates the rapid progress of the Apollo program. The Apollo 12 mission added significantly to man's knowledge of the Moon. The precise landing capability allowed the crew to accomplish a wide variety of preplanned tasks and paved the way for planning future missions to smaller, more selected landing areas with the possibility of significant scientific returns. The publication includes chapters on mission description, summary of scientific results, photographic summary of the Apollo 12 Mission, crew observations, passive seismic experiment, lunar surface magnetometer experiment, the solar-wind spectrometer experiment, suprathermal ion detector experiment (lunar ionosphere detector), cold cathode gage (lunar atmosphere detector), the solar-wind composition experiment, Apollo 12 multispectral photography experiment, preliminary geologic investigation of the Apollo 12 landing site, lunar surface closeup stereoscopic photography, preliminary examination of lunar samples, and preliminary results from Surveyor 3 analysis.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe book contains the proceedings of the honorary symposium “Advances in the Science and Engineering of Casting Solidification” (TMS2015, Orlando, Florida, March 15-19, 2015) held in honor of Professor Doru Michael Stefanescu, Emeritus Professor, Ohio State University and the University of Alabama, USA. The book encompasses the following four areas: (1) Solidification processing: theoretical and experimental investigations of solidification processes including castings solidification, directional solidification of alloys, electromagnetic stirring, ultrasonic cavitation, mechanical vibration, active cooling and heating, powder bed-electron beam melting additive manufacturing, etc. for processing of metals, polymers and composite materials; (2) Microstructure Evolution: theoretical and experimental studies related to microstructure evolution of materials including prediction of solidification-related defects and particle pushing/engulfment aspects; (3) Novel Casting and Molding Processes: modeling and experimental aspects including high pressure die casting, permanent casting, centrifugal casting, low pressure casting, 3D silica sand mold printing, etc.; and (4) Cast Iron: all aspects related to cast iron characterization, computational and analytical modeling, and processing.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKFatigue is a major issue affecting safety and quality of service in the railway industry. This book reviews key aspects of this important subject. It begins by providing an overview of the subject, discussing fatigue at the wheel-rail interface and in other aspects of infrastructure. It then considers fatigue in railway and tramway track, looking at causes of potential failure in such areas as rails and fixings as well as sleepers. It also reviews failure points in structures such as embankments and cuttings. The book analyses fatigue in railway bridges, looking in particular at masonry arch bridges as well as metal and concrete bridges. Two final chapters review safety and reliability issues affecting escalators and lifts.Fatigue in railway infrastructure is a helpful reference for those in the railway industry responsible for infrastructure maintenance as well as those researching this important subject. - Provides a concise review of fatigue in the railway infrastructure - Examines the causes of potential failure in rails, fixings and sleepers - Analyses fatigue in railway bridges including masonry arch, metal and concrete structures
