DOWNLOAD EBOOKCampground use on the Huron and Manistee National Forests in Michigan was studied in relation to resource characteristics, location, facilities provided, and visitor attitudes about the environment. Four factors in combination accounted for 69% of a variation in campground use per unit. Resource quality ratings made earlier as part of a nationwide Forest Service recreation resource inventory did not agree with visitors` ratings and had little relation to use variations. Overall resource quality ratings by visitors were most associated with their judgment of general environmental quality (essentially scenery).
