There was once a little fisherman. Every morning he would take his boat out into the wide sea . . . and wait, and wait. When the little fisherman gets an unexpected (and very large) visitor one day, they instantly become friends. They have a lot of fun exploring each other's homes, but where have all the fishes gone? This stunningly beautiful and warm-hearted picture book all about the friendship between a fisherman and whale is the perfect way to introduce the notion of sharing, sustainability and taking care of the creatures in our oceans with young children.
I was always "Daddy's Girl," and I missed him so much when he went away on his many trips with the British Merchant Navy. As I grew up, our close bond continued. While he was away I started writing him wee poems, letting him know what was happening in my life. On a recent visit with him, almost 30 years later, he went upstairs and returned with a bundle of papers in his hands. When he handed it to me, I saw the poems I had sent to him all those years before. He said he would like me to have them. I know these poems aren't the workings of a great laureate. They are just a window into my life as it was nearly 30 years ago, a little effort to let my dad know that he was always in my thoughts even though he was so far away.
Assuming no prior knowledge, Understanding Syntax illustrates the major concepts, categories and terminology associated with the study of cross-linguistic syntax. A theory-neutral and descriptive viewpoint is taken throughout. Starting with an overview of what syntax is, the book moves on to an explanation of word classes (such as noun, verb, adjective) and then to a discussion of sentence structure in the world’s languages. Grammatical constructions and relationships between words in a clause are explained and thoroughly illustrated, including grammatical relations such as subject and object; function-changing processes such as the passive and antipassive; case and agreement processes, including both ergative and accusative alignments; verb serialization; head-marking and dependent-marking grammars; configurational and non-configurational languages; questions and relative clauses. The final chapter explains and illustrates the principles involved in writing a brief syntactic sketch of a language, enabling the reader to construct a grammatical sketch of a language known to them. Data from approximately 100 languages appears in the text, with languages representing widely differing geographical areas and distinct language families. The book will be essential for courses in cross-linguistic syntax, language typology, and linguistic fieldwork, as well as for basic syntactic description.

This series of books will continue to introduce man in person with his maker, God Almighty. God will meet and work with representatives from the Planet Ares (PA) to seek help in finding peace throughout his entire universe. God uses these meetings as a method to allow man to seek peace on his own terms. The primary setting for this continuing secret peace corps story is the United States of America (USA) in the state of Virginia on the Eastern Shore. Secret Peace Corps (SPC) agent John James VA10A and his wife, Susan James, SPC agent VA10C, have been assigned an SPC mission by their commanding officer, Joshua Christian (JC), from the Secret Peace Corps Earth Base Station (SPCEBS). This SPC mission is to seek out, locate, and verify if a small al-Qaeda terrorist cell located on the Delmarva Peninsula exists and is expanding. SPC Agents VA10A and VA10C investigate and locate this cell, code named the Delly Rode. During their investigation, they are shocked and surprised to discover that this Delly Rode cell is in the process of planning two major missions at this time. One is to hijack an Exocet missile with code name Driftwood Eagle. Two is to construct, plant, and detonate a high-yield dynamite bomb within the Wallops Island Space Center Complex (WISC), Wallops Island, Virginia. How the mysteries of these two missions develop and unfold will surely overwhelm your mind as this story is told. These two missions come together as the SPC continues to seek peace here on planet earth (PE).
