The twenty-second Theoretical Roman Archaeology Conference (TRAC) was held at the Goethe-University Frankfurt am Main in spring 2012. During the three-day conference fifty papers were delivered, discussing issues from a wide range of geographical regions of the Roman Empire, and applying various theoretical and methodological approaches. An equally wide selection of subjects was presented: sessions looked at Greek art and philhellenism in the Roman world, the validity of the concept of ‘Romanisation’, change and continuity in Roman religion, urban neighbourhood relations in Pompeii and Ostia, the transformation of objects in and from the Roman world, frontier markets and Roman archaeology in the Provinces. In addition, two general sessions covered single topics such as the ‘transvestite of Catterick’, metal recycling or Egyptian funeral practice in the Roman period. This volume contains a selection of papers from all these sessions.

This timely and important new work takes a critical look at government in the American states and illustrates the disconnect between state government institutions and their constituents. The text illuminates three basic political problems of state governments: weak constitutional and institutional foundations; a lack of civic engagement; and long histories of unchecked public corruption. In addition, the book explains why some states did and others did not respond promptly to the COVID-19 pandemic and examines America's long-standing problem of police and prosecutorial misconduct–providing a context for understanding the demonstrations and protests that rocked American cities in the summer of 2020. For students and citizens of state politics, the book concludes with a proposal aimed at civic literacy and action

Green chemistry is a work tool that can be applied in different areas such as medicine, materials, polymers, food, organic chemistry, etc., since it was propounded in the early 2000s. It has become a viable alternative for care, remediation and protection of the environment and has been implemented worldwide. In this book the twelve principles of green chemistry are presented in a simple way, with examples of the applications of green chemistry in numerous areas showcasing it as an ideal alternative for environmental care. It also provides information on current research being implemented at the pilot plant and industrial level. The book demonstrates the importance of the use of renewable raw materials, the use of catalysis and the implementation of alternative energy sources such as the use of microwaves and ultrasound in different separation and chemical processes.

Green Approaches for Chemical Analysis addresses emerging trends and technologies for the development of green analytical methods. The book covers basic principles of Green Analytical Chemistry (GAC) and describes the most up-to-date strategies used in areas such as sample preparation, instrumental analysis, and use and synthesis of green solvents and sorbents for separation. Many applications of analytical methods are discussed from a "green perspective, such as multiresidue analysis, metabolomics, food analysis, environmental monitoring, and bio-clinical applications. Written by experts in their fields, the book's chapters offer a variety of green analytical solutions readers can apply to their own analytical needs. - Combines an overview of the fundamental principles of Green Analytical Chemistry with applications in many various fields of research, including food, the environment and bioanalysis - Gives a critical overview of current analytical strategies and the applicability of green alternatives for various analytical purposes, comparing the efficacy of these approaches - Clarifies the link between analytical sample preparation and other methods
