DOWNLOAD EBOOKExcerpt from Therapeutic Suggestion in Psychopathia Sexualis (Pathological Manifestations of the Sexual Sense): With Especial Reference to Contrary Sexual Instinct Though, in spite of the obstinate opposition and continued indifference of prominent clinicians, all the greater series of experiments of late years agree in demonstrating that with necessary precautions hypnotic suggestion, used for remedial purposes, after the methods of "Liebeault, Bernheim, and Forel," is an effective and harmless therapeutic agent; and though thus the question concerning the justification of hypnotic suggestion and its admission among the available means of our therapeutic armamentarium may at last be regarded as settled, yet the exact determination of the sphere of therapeutic operation of hypnotic suggestion may be regarded as the second important part of the problem to be solved. Experimentation in the most heterogeneous domains of disease - external and internal, organic and functional - has now to establish a place for systematic application of suggestion in functional disturbances of certain kinds, by the side of other remedial measures, with exact valuation and comparison.
