Excerpt from The Works of the Rt. Hon. Lord Byron, Vol. 4 of 8 The reader will please to bear in mind (what few choose to recollect) that there is no allusion to a future state in any of the books of Moses, nor indeed in the Old Testament. For a reason for this extraordinary omission he may consult War burton's Divine Legation; whether satisfactory or not, no better has yet been assigned. I have therefore supposed it new to Cain, without, I hope, any perversion of Holy Writ. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Works of Lord Byron, Vol. 4 In my own I have given you the rise, program, de cline, and fall, of my recent malady. It is gone to the devil: I won't pay him so had a compliment as to say it. Me from him he is too much ofa gentle man. It was nothing but. A slow fever, which quick emed its pace towards the end of its journey. I had been bored with it some weeks with nocturnal burnings and morning perspiration but I am quite well again, which I attribute to having had neither n 61 5 s e nor doctor thereof. Excerpt from The Works of Lord Byron, Vol. 11 Anah. But, Aholibamah I love our God less since his angel loved me 'fllta'even' This cannot be of good; and though I know not That I do wrong, I'feel a thousand fears Which are not ominous of nght. Aholibamah. Then wed thee Unto some son of clay, and toil and spin! There's J aphet loves thee well, hath loved thee long; Marry, and bringforth dust! Anah. I should have loved Azaziel not less were he mortal, yet I am glad he 15 not. I can not outlive him. And when I think that his immortal wings Will one day hover o'er the sepulchre Of the poor child of clay which so adored him As he adores the Highest, death becomes Le$s terrible; but yet I pity him; His grief will be of ages, or at least Mine would be such for 'him, were I the Seraph, And he the perishable. Aholijbamah. Rather say That he will single forth some other daughter Of Earth and love her as he once loved Anah. Anah. And if it should be so and she so loved him Better thus than that he should weep for me. Aholibamah. If I thought thus of Samiasa's love All Seraph as he is I'd spurn him fr'om'me: But to our invocation 'tis the hour. Anah. Seraph 'a mystery From thy Sphere! Whatever star chntain th'y'r glory q In the eternal depths of Heaven' Albeit thou watchest with the Steven, Though through Spa'ce'infinite and hoary Before thy bright wings worlds be driven, Yet hear! Oh! Think of her 'who holds thee dear! And though she nothing is to thee Yet think that thou art all to her. Thou canst not tell - ai1d never be Such pangs decreed to aught save me The bitterness of tears. Eternity is in thine years Unborn, undying beauty in thine eyes; With me thou canst not sympathize, Except in love, and there thou must Acknowledge that more loving dust Ne'er wept beneath the skies '3 Thou walk'st thy many worlds thou see'st The face of Him who made thee great, As He hath made me ofithe least Of those cast out from Eden's gate Yet, Seraph dear! Oh heart For thou hast loved me and I would not die Until I know what I must die in knowing, That thou forget'st in' thine eternity Her whose heart death could not keep from Q'erflowing For thee, immortal essence as thou art! Excerpt from The Works of Lord Byron, Vol. 4 of 6 The conspiracy of the Doge Marino Faliero is one of the most remarkable events in the annals of the most singular government, city, and people of modern history. It occurred in the year 1355. E very thing about Venice is, or was, extraordinary-her aspect is like a dream, and her history is like a romance. The story of this Doge is to be found in all her Chronicles, and particularly detailed in the "Lives of the Doges," by Marin Sanuto, which is given in the Appendix. It is simply and clearly related, and is perhaps more dramatic in itself than any scenes which can be founded upon the subject. Marino Faliero appears to have been a man of talents and of courage. I find him commander in chief of the land forces at the siege of Zara, where he beat the King of Hungary and his army of 80,000 men, killing 8000 men, and keeping the besieged at the same time in check; an exploit to which I know none similar in history, except that of Caesar at Alesia, and of Prince Eugene at Belgrade. He was afterwards commander of the fleet in the same war. He took Capo d'lstria. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. You will remark that the unities are' all strictly preserved.
