He attended Capital University and the Evangelical Lutheran Theological Seminary (Ohio Synod) in Columbus and at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia (General Council). Loy served as a pastor from 1886 to 1929, President of Lima College 1898-1903 and Professor and President of the Chicago Lutheran Bible School.
