Excerpt: ... no longer suffer from the cold in winter, or from hunger in the seasons when fish and game, and the roots and berries which the earth produced in season, were not abundant. They were not unwilling to give up a large part of their land to secure this desired change, and were living in anticipation of the time when it would be made. Not a few of them were beginning to doubt that it would be made--they had been hearing about it for so long a time. The settlers were coming in ever increasing numbers; were choosing such land as pleased them, building their homes and otherwise improving it; living in increasing comfort from what they got out of it, and paying them nothing.
