Excerpt from The Twenty-Eight Secretary's Report of the Class of 1866 of Harvard College: June, 1929 Swithin Chandler, born in England, June 24, 1674, was my direct American Chandler ancestor. My dear Stratton, I will intrude what might be called a self inspection or a personal diagnosis; my physical powers seem to be functioning with normal efficiency, but the handicap of my stricken eyesight thwarts my longing desire to accompany my Harvard Classmates to the banquet Of the Class of '79 to be given in Phillips Brooks House, June 20. May joy abound and the spirit of Auld Lang Syne rule the hour. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The Twenty-Sixth Secretary's Report of the Class of 1866: Of Harvard College, June, 1927 Fenno is the only survivor of the five of our Class in the Harvard Crew of '66. I thought that perhaps you might take some interest in the two articles from the Advocate of June, 1866. The identities of B and Sixty-six will probably be forever hidden, unless the writers are still living and are willing to make confession. Excerpt from The Twenty-Ninth Secretary's Report of the Class of 1866 of Harvard College: June, 1930 He writes: I fancy you think I have been very lazy in not having answered vour letter in regard to the Class Book. I have not been quite so lazy as you probably think. I have tried a dozen times to write something worthy to be published under your editorship, and I have spoiled a lot of good paper, but without success. The fact is that my 'rollo' days are past, and I have not much to tell my friends here of my adventures. The past year, as far as anything that would interest my classmates is concerned, has been rather barren. I have lived most of the time as usual in Rome under the beneficent rule of Signor Mus solini. I suppose I have become a good member of the Fascisti family. However, that is a subject not to dilate upon. I have had thoughts of the class constantly in mind, especially of Storey and Emerson, for both of whom I have never ceased to have great respect and fondness since my Harvard days. As I have been living in a country where I could drink what I pleased with out offending the law, I have often wished that some of my class mates might turn up and help me to dispose of some Class of 1866 whiskey which I have saved for many years in hopes that it would go down the proper throats, but it is not too late for that yet. However, I expect to be with you on Commencement Day, where I hope I shall meet as many of the members of the Class as have survived Time's ruthless scythe. Then I can tell all these things much better than I can write them. Meanwhile, I send them all my love and best wishes, with the hope that we may all meet in undiminished numbers in 1931. Excerpt from The Twenty-Seventh Secretary's Report of the Class of 1866 of Harvard College, June, 1928 Here is our Sixty-second Anniversary and here is your little Yearbook. Since last Commencement we have lost from our little band Thomas Sergeant Perry. Requiescat in pace! I felt sure that you would like to see a picture of our dear friend and hostess of former years, Mrs. Lilian Hosford Farlow, who died last Autumn. Abbott's picture was so good and showed such a wonderful convalescence from his illness, that I thought I should give you a chance to see it. Please do not forget to notify me of any errors of commission or omission in this book, and any suggestions at any time I will thankfully receive. Let me express my gratitude for all the kind things which you have said to me in your letters. All health and happiness for the coming year!
