Imagine yourself as a very physical guy, an ex-commando and skydiver, who has a stroke for no known reason and loses nearly everything about your body but the functions of your mind and – thankfully – your sexuality. You awaken from a coma to a gruelling, yet often funny, rehabilitation. You can’t speak; you can only move your eyes. You’ve never been an angel. You lose your marriage totally and are separated from your children. Finally, new love, and you become a parent, once more. This is the true-life story of Danny Furlong’s extraordinary journey from an active life to the depths of mute quadriplegia and back to the highs of life within that quadriplegia.

Eschatology is often thought of as describing the ‘end of the world’ or ‘end times’. Yet many have begun to conclude that the restoration of all things is an inevitable consequence of who God really is as Love, encouraging them to look to the future with optimistic anticipation and expectation. Isaiah prophesied no end to the increase of God’s government and peace, so why are believers still looking for an end? Mike Parsons examines the reasons for this confusion, exposing the ‘Great Deception’ that lies behind it, and proposing instead a ‘happy eschatology’ in which all of God’s children can recognise and fulfil their eternal destiny.

Abalos (religious studies and sociology, Seton Hall U.) presents a critique of archetypal roles of Latino males including the womanizer, the macho, and the patriarch. As an alternative to these outdated and restrictive ways of living, Abalos describes how Latino males are able to radically redefine themselves and create new transformational archetypes. He goes on to discuss how Latino men can become agents of transformation in the family and the larger world. c. Book News Inc.

A Strictly Biblical Perspective Ministries Inc. has strategically designed a biblical cognitive character-based training curriculum. It is designed to equip pastors, chaplains, and faith-based instructors with insight for preparing reentry volunteers as mentors to be matched with returning citizens upon their release from prison or while incarcerated. The curriculum is designed with six modules to assist faith-based volunteers in developing a biblical perspective into God's fourfold purpose for their lives: relationships, character development, service, and reproduction. The fifth module is designed to address the spiritual warfare that ministry leaders and faith-based volunteers will encounter in mentoring the "returning citizen population." The final module is designed to assist ministry leaders and faith-based volunteers in understanding how to assist returning citizens in overcoming the effects of alcohol and drug addiction. This course will build the capacity of members within the faith-based community to minister to returning citizens in restoration from crime and addiction. The curriculum is designed to enhance the quality of care to the "ex offender population" by producing spiritually mature mentors walking in close fellowship with God. The curriculum is extremely comprehensive and highly interactive and will assist volunteers in developing a functional understanding of their roles in mentoring returning citizens through the use of scriptures, a series of individual and small group exercises.

This volume is comprised of contributions to the 67th Nebraska Symposium on Motivation, which brought together various research disciplines such as psychology, education, health sciences, natural resources, environmental studies to investigate the ways in which nature influences cognition, health, human behavior, and well-being. The symposium is positioned to explore two proposed mechanisms in the most depth: 1) the psycho-evolutionary theory of stress recovery and 2) Attention Restoration Theory. The contributions in the volume represent research guided by both of these posited mechanisms, rigorously examine these theories and processes, and share methodological innovations that can be utilized across programs of research. This volume will be of great interest to researchers on natural environments, practitioners and clinicians working with an environmental lens at the intersection of psychology, social work, education and the health sciences, as well as researchers and students in environmental and conservation psychology. Skillfully weaving an African worldview into the conventional historiography of British abolitionism, Claudius K. Fergus presents new insights into one of the most intriguing and momentous episodes of Atlantic history. In Revolutionary Emancipation, Fergus argues that the 1760 rebellion in Jamaica, Tacky's War -- the largest and most destructive rebellion of enslaved peoples in the Americas prior to the Haitian Revolution -- provided the rationale for abolition and reform of the colonial system. Fergus shows that following Tacky's War, British colonies in the West Indies sought political preservation under state-regulated amelioration of slavery. He further contends that abolitionists' successes -- from partial to general prohibition of the slave trade -- hinged more on the economic benefits of creolizing slave labor and the costs of preserving the colonies from destructive emancipation rebellions than on a conviction of justice and humanity for Africans. In the end, Fergus maintains, slaves' commitment to revolutionary emancipation kept colonial focus on reforming the slave system. His study carefully dissects new evidence and reinterprets previously held beliefs, offering historians the most compelling arguments for African agency in abolitionism.
