The Raccolta (literally, "collection" in Italian) is a book that listed Roman Catholic prayers and other acts of piety, such as novenas for which specific indulgances were granted by Popes. It was translated by Father St. John who was a convert to Catholicism and was one of the first books of popular devotion issued by the Fathers of the Birmingham Oratory, supplying them with the congregational prayers, still in use in their church, for the Stations of the Cross, for the 1110nth of May, the Triduo and Novenas in preparation for the Feasts of our Lady, and similar devotions. This Edition has been conformed to the latest Roman Raccolta, approved July 23, 1898, and the Supplement, approved July 31, 1902; and contains also the Indulgences and decisions since recorded in the Acta Sanctae Sedis up to the present time.

The Raccolta of Prayers and Good Works is a collection of the treasury of prayers, novenas and devotions of the Roman Catholic Church in large book format as compiled in 1910 by Ambrose St. John of the Oratory of Saint Philip Neri. Published in the original English, with side-by-side Latin given for the most popular prayers and litanies, this edition of the Raccolta makes available once again almost 500 prayers, in both short and long forms, for every single need of the Catholic faithful, seekers, and the whole People of God. A veritable multitude of prayers to the Holy Trinity for each occasion are included in this Raccolta. There are also prayers to the Blessed Virgin Mary under several of her titles, the complete prayers to Saint Michael the Archangel that had been approved by Pope Leo XIII in 1888, and the prayers to the Holy Angels including Saint Gabriel and Saint Raphael. Although the indulgences originally stated no longer apply to their related prayers unless these are found also in the new Enchiridion Indulgentiarum, the prayers gathered in this Raccolta still retain their great spiritual merit especially for private devotion.

In 1968 it was replaced by the Enchiridion Indulgentiarum, listing fewer specific prayers but including new general grants that apply to a wide range of prayerful actions. The Raccolta (literally meaning "collection" in Italian) is an abbreviation of its full title: Raccolta delle orazioni e pie opere per le quali sono sono concedute dai Sommi Pontefici le SS. Indulgenze ("Collection of Prayers and Good Works for Which the Popes Have Granted Holy Indulgences"). The text was in Italian, with the prayers themselves given in Latin. The book was first published in 1807 by Telesforo Galli, in assoociation with the Sacred Congregation of Indulgences and Holy Relics, with successive editions in 1810, 1812, 1814, 1818, 1825, 1831, 1834, 1837, 1841, 1844 and 1849. Following official approval by a Decree of 15 December 1854, later editions were issued directly as publications of the Holy See by the Sacred Congregation of Indulgences and Holy Relics (which in the reform of the Roman Curia by Pope Pius X was united with the Sacred Congregation of Rites. A general revision was carried out in 1877, declaring that the revision alone was from then on authoritative. Later editions of this were produced in 1886 and 1898. Approval of the Roman Congregation was required for publishing a complete translation of the work.
