This book garnered rave reviews upon its publication in 1862, even from an Anglican-dominated secular press. The "London Art Review" praised its "One hundred and twelve wood engravings, well executed, after the original designs of a distinguished artist of the Dusseldorf school," despite its object "to inculcate the doctrines of Romanism." This First Holy Communion catechism was designed specifically with young traditional Catholic children in mind.
