Henry Pence (1740-1826), who probably anglicized his name from Joerg Heinrich Bentz, emigrated in 1752 from Germany to Philadedelphia. He married Mary Blimly in 1765, and during or before 1770 had settled in Frederick County, Virginia. He served in the Revolutionary War, and in 1805 moved to Champaign County, Ohio. Descendants and relatives lived in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Ohio, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota and elsewhere.
John Madison Pence was born 22 December 1776. His parents were Jacob Pence and Elizabeth. He married Maria Lavina Cossart (1800-1874), daughter of Peter Cossairt, Jr. and Mary Banta, 11 September 1823. They had four children. He died 16 September 1870. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Ohio.
