Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 76: April 16, 1914 Joseph Smith, a poor boy with no education, says he saw heavenly visions, and on the strength of those manifestations founded 'a Church which during his life made rapid progress in the world, and after his death continued with unabated vigor to gain in numbers and general prosperity. N 0 one disputes the fact that the Church was an outgrowth of his work, and few refuse to admit that he died for the testimony he bore. The explanation of the work he founded and the manner in which he bravely suffered hardship and death for his conviction is what the world is seeking to-day. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 76: Thursday, September 17, 1914 There is no great need, I think, to invoke the arm of the law in England against Mormonism. If the light is once let in upon it it will die of itself. The moral sense of English men and women will rise against it. It is my earnest hope that Miss Graham's literary skill may prove efficacious in the crusade in which she has played so notable and so noble a part. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 76: November 26, 1914 In conclusion, let it be borne in mind that to Mormonism has been assigned the sacred and important duty of making possible the salvation of both living and dead. When we compare the countless numbers of dead with the comparatively few who still live, we see not only the universal application of the gospel of Christ, but we are forced to admit that this essential counterpart of the plan of salvation has not been receiving the attention which we, individually, should render it. One of the unique features of Mormonism is, that each one of us, even the weakest, has illimitable opportunities for service in the accomplishment of that great ideal - the exaltation of the human family. The vital ques tion is, then, Are we doing our part? About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 76: February 26, 1914 As there are so many falsehoods told about the Latter-day Saints, I thought it might do some good to hear the truth from one that has just returned from Salt Lake City. I have been a member of the Mormon Church for fourteen years, and ever since I joined it I have had a desire to go to Utah. However, it has not been my lot to make my home there so far, but I am thankful to say that the way was opened for me last summer to go on a visit to that place for six months. My youngest daughter and I sailed on the Corsican, May 3lst, 1913, and We returned on the Victorian, November 26th, 1913, and I can say that I never enjoyed anything so much in my life as I did that visit to Utah. 've stayed with my married daughter, who has lived in Salt Lake City for over five years. I found her very happy, and she just loves her mountain home. Her husband, who is a native of Penrith, England, has a good situation, and is making good wages. They told me that they never have wished to return to England to live; but they intend to make a visit to this land in the near future. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 76: October 15, 1914 President Marion Knight welcomed all present and expressed the hope that all would receive some good by attending. If, he said, we attend meetings to be benefited, we will receive some good; if we attend to find fault, the result will be different. The man who looks for evil finds it; the man who looks for good will also find what he looks for. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 79: February 1, 1917 Mormon, first given in derision as a nickname, was fastened upon the members of the Church. Such a beginning as that of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints may seem to afford little ground of either hope or fear as to future developments; nevertheless, the newly-established Church was made the subject of assault from its inception. What was there to cause hostile concern over the voluntary association of six men and a few of their friends in an organization of Openly expressed purpose, and that purpose the peaceful promulgation of what they verily believed to be the uplifting religion of life, the gospel of Jesus Christ? Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 76: March 19, 1914 No greater refutation of Bishop Ryle's false teaching is neces sary. If the members of the Church need to be perfected; if the body of Christ needs edifying; if it is the desire of the Lord that we come to a unity of the faith, and to a knowledge of the Son of God; if it is necessary for us to be kept from being tossed to and fro and carried about with every. Wind of doctrine, then inspired ministers are necessary in the Church of Christ. The reason that the Christian world is in the deplorable condition it is at the present time, is because it has been for many hundreds of years without an inspired ministry. Yet in the face of this terrible con dition, Bishop Ryle says inspired officers are not necessary. Now, dear reader, which of these men do you consider a true servant of god-joseph Smith, who advocates the necessity of an inspired ministry, and who is in perfect harmony with the scrip tures, or Bishop Ryle, who, in direct opposition to the teaching of holy writ, declares that such officers are not necessary? Again the bishop gives evidence that Joseph Smith was a true prophet. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 76: October 1, 1914 They say Joseph Smith was an impostor. But, tell me, what about this book he published, of which mention is made in Isaiah 29; this book that is believed in by some of the leading educators and greatest scientists of the day, to say nothing of many thousands of humbler folk? What are you going to do with it? It is still being circulated amongst the people, daily finding more believers. There is not a book on the face of the earth, save the Bible, that is more talked of, and still you do not believe it.
