He pos sessed the same good qualities of heart as of mind, and was liberal to an extreme for the views of others and those with whom he might differ in opinion, religiously or otherwise. By his continual upright course in life he established a credit for integrity and honesty. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 74: January 18, 1912 Brother Taylor has given me some credit here, in his remarks, that I do not claim to merit, referring to a condition of which I cannot of myself boast; for I am under the necessity of acknow ledging, and I do most cheerfully acknowledge, that I owe my success so far in family life largely to those whom God has favored me with to help me care for and rear and train my children. For years together, I have been away from home on missions, leaving my little ones with their mothers; and yet, during all my absence from home, I have felt the assurance in my soul that my boys and girls were under the care, protection and guidance of faithful, true Latter-day Saints. Whatever credit may attach to me, is due largely to those whom God has given me to be my helpmates in life. I want to acknowledge it before the world, because it is true. I do not mean to say, by this, that we are without blemish, that we are perfect, that we know it all, and that we, ourselves, know just what to do and how to do it, in order to accomplish the results that we desire; but I mean to say this, that in the home where there is union, where there is love, where there is faith in God, where the father and the mother, when together, and the children are united in prayer and in sup plication to God - that there is a providence over that home that will shape the course of those that are entrusted with the training and care of that home, that will be most pleasing and acceptable in the sight of God. We must, therefore, give not only credit to our wives for their faithfulness and love of the truth, for the important part they act, for the good work they do in the sacred duty of rearing the family, and their union with their husbands in the family discipline; but we must acknowledge, where this spirit and union prevails in the hearts of the family, that the hand of God is there, and the providence of the Lord is over them and their home, and blessings will come and the right spirit and feeling will be inspired within the hearts of our children. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 74: January 11, 1912 Then again, the world had too long believed in the expediency of repentance. Repentance had become illogical, because it was supposed to be only necessary on the spur jof the moment and when a man was face to face with death. As to faith in God, man had no faith, and God had become a gaseous vertebrate, a non-entity. The French Revolutionists had announced what the world was fast accepting: There is no God but Reason. And so the god of Reason supplanted the true and living God of Israel. What the world needed, at the beginning of the nineteenth cen tury, was God. Not God in the heavens and in the past alone; but God tic-day and here with us as men. What the apostles of Christ knew, the world needed to know at first hand. It was a time when solid, scholarly, substantial scientific thought should take hold of the knowledge of God, and build towards Him and the Savior of the world. Some one has warned us. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 74: July 18, 1912 The kingdom of God and His righteousness was the sole thought of the noble men and women who laid the foundation of this great commonwealth. Of them they spoke and sang by day, of them they dreamed by night. Hear the words of their faithful leader as soon as his feet had touched the soil, Here we shall build a city, and there shall stand the temple of our God. We point with pride to the fulfillment of that prophecy. It is evidence to us, if not to the unthinking world, that the leader of the pioneers was inspired by the Spirit of the living God. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 74: August 29, 1912 The words of the beautiful hymn, Let us treat each other kindly, have prompted me to write upon this subject. They are so expressive of a glorious truth that hours - yes years - could be spent in meditating upon their sacred philosophy, and even then its nearest vestures of beauty would scarcely be touched. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 74: December 5, 1912 I wish to call the attention of the despisers of new revelation to the words of Christ, spoken to His disciples on one occasion when treating on the subject of prayer. They are as follows: And I say unto you, Ask, and it Shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 74: June 13, 1912 In considering these objections, the really earnest inquirer is asked to approach the subject with as little prejudice as possible, not seeking to impress his mind upon the Scriptures, but allowing the revelations of God to impress themselves upon him. He should bear in mind that from wishing a thing to be untrue, it is but a short step to believing it to be so, thus permitting the will to bribe the understanding, as is the case with those who consult the Scriptures not to gain knowledge, but to be confirmed in a fore gone conclusion. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 74: November 28, 1912 Upon it let the clouds distil virtue and richness and let the fields smile with plenty. Let the flocks and herds greatly multiply upon the mountains and hills. Let thy great kindness conquer and sub due the unbelief of Thy people, incline them to gather in upon this land according to Thy word. Let the large Ships of nations bring them from the distant isles, etc. Oh, the meaning of that prayer and the humility of the Divinely called man who uttered it! That prayer is recorded in heaven, as well as upon earth, as shown by its fulfillment before the eyes of all nations. That prayer answers every question that can arise concerning the gathering of Judah in this day. It stands as another witness to all the world of the truth of the restored gos pel of Jesus Christ and the Divine commission that rests upon the leaders of God's Church, to which the world in derision gives the name of Mormonism. Despite present unpopularity and persecution, the world will some day come to realize that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been God's instrument for the fulfillment of His purposes in these latter days.
