This King of Prayers, the extraordinary aspiration of the prayer of Samantabhadra, is commonly recited to bring benefit to those who are sick or have just passed away, and for the success of a virtuous project. It is a beautifully written aspiration containing the immaculate wishes of holy beings and in itself is a complete practice. It was extracted from the Gandhavyuha chapter of the Avatamsaka Sutra. Translated by Jesse Fenton. 13 Pages, 2008 Edition
In December, 2009, at the well-known Buddhist pilgrimage location of Bodh Gaya, India, Shamar Rinpoche gave a teaching on the Noble King of Prayers of Excellent Conduct, also known as the Samantabhadra Wishing Prayer. This book is based on this teaching. In the past, Buddha Shakyamuni gave the teaching of the Samantabhadra Wishing Prayer to urge practitioners to treat the great Bodhisattva Samantabhadra as a role model to emulate so that all their wishes may be accomplished. The Tibetan text, as well as an English-language version of the prayer itself, translated by Pamela Gayle White under the guidance of Shamar Rinpoche, is included in the book. As the author states, “ Once we accept that &‘ our world' is merely a mental experience, notions of big and small do not apply anymore, and our mind can hold any number of these manifestations. It is this capacity of our mind to extend itself beyond any limit that we have to use for our practice.”
As a veteran broadcaster and talk show host, Larry King has spent most of his life asking important people important questions. Here, he asks some of the world's most prominent, glamorous, and intriguing figures to answer the most profound questions of our time--questions that deal with the resurgence of faith and spirituality in the United States.
A description of the Tibetan Buddhist Dzogchen path of awakening, with instructions and guidance for following it. With deep compassion, sharp observations, and arresting metaphors, the Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche explicates "The Aspiration of Samantabhadra" for both new and experienced practitioners. This Dzogchen prayer explores the different manifestations of rigpa, our basic awareness in daily life, and constitutes a set of instructions for refining the path of practice. Taken from material from a series of talks in Germany and the United States, Penetrating Wisdom includes the text of the prayer, Rinpoche's always-lively commentary, and lucid answers to questions posed by his students. This book is a commentary on an ancient, well-known Tibetan Buddhist prayer of aspiration that expounds on the Dzogchen path to enlightenment. Containing key fundamentals about the Vajrayana path--the guru-student relationship, the role of faith in Vajrayana Buddhism, recognizing basic awareness, and the notion of reality that is beyond mental concepts--this book is a clear and accessible explication of a complex system of philosophy and meditation techniques that are central to Tibetan Buddhism. While the author is a traditionally trained master in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, he has won great appreciation in the West for his humor, familiarity with Western culture, and his unique talent for using examples that are drawn directly from Western metropolitan lifestyles. He has lived and taught in Europe and North America for many years.
