Excerpt from The Journal of the Society of Automotive Engineers, 1923, Vol. 12 The averages for the percentages of gasoline distilled from the crankcase oils are given for these seven groups, which are numbered to conform to Table 3; also, the general averages for the three sets of analyses have been taken and these latter figures are recalculated to Show the actual dilution, that is to' say, the percentage of gasoline based on the original oil. Excerpt from The Journal of the Society of Automotive Engineers, Vol. 11: July, 1922 Summing up, Mr. Coleman said, taking the percentage Of miles run on the B fuel per barrel of crude as 100, we find that fuel A gives 86-per cent miles per barrel, and -per cent actual crankcase-oil dilution. With B fuel the crankcase dilution is per cent. With C fuel, representing 123-per cent miles per barrel of crude, the figure for crankcase dilution is and with the D fuel, averaging 136-per cent miles per barrel of crude, the crankcase dilution is as high as It appears, there fore, that more miles are obtainable per barrel of crude on the heavier fuel, but here the problem Of crankcase-oil dilution becomes more acute. Excerpt from The Journal of the Society of Automotive Engineers, Vol. 13: July, 1923 Laboratory work with the engine of the car in most general use was undertaken upon the completion of the road-tests. The results of the summer road-tests on the Speedway course are summarized in Figs. 2 and 3. The conclusions drawn from these results are (a) that under summer weather conditions the differences in fuel consumption obtained with the four test-fuels were much smaller than the differences in the estimated possible production of these test-fuels by current methods as indicated in Table 3, and (b) that the results were sensitive to small changes in carbureter adjustment. This sensitiveness is illustrated by the fact that, with a fixed adjustment, better economy was obtained with the less volatile fuels; whereas, when the carbureters were adjusted for each fuel, somewhat better economy was obtained with the more volatile fuels. The results of the road tests for crankcase dilution indicate that there was a greater rate of dilution with the less volatile fuels. Excerpt from The Journal of the Society of Automotive Engineers, Vol. 10: January, 1922 The success of the meeting in bringing about a better understanding of the real problems and difficulties of each industry by representatives of the other was oh vions throughout. It was evident that a status has been reached wherein neither the petroleum refiner nor the automotive engineer is willing to speak before a technical audience without considering carefully whether his state ments will stand analysis in the light of the practical limitations of the other industry. Excerpt from The Journal of the Society of Automotive Engineers, Vol. 9: July, 1921 It is believed that the preceding comparisons of the various types of internal-combustion engine indicate the advisability of developing a high-compression mechanical injection engine for adaptation to automotive uses. It was with this conviction that the development work which follows was undertaken. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Mechanical Engineering, Vol. 45: The Journal of the American Society for Mechanical Engineers; January to December, 1923 The various levels of analysis in economic investigation are matters of profound and practical concern to the engineer as well as to the economist. In considering the national income it is obvious, as previously stated, that money is important because it represents goods, and that goods in turn are important because they contribute to welfare.
