DOWNLOAD EBOOKExcerpt from Life of Lady Georgiana Fullerton: From the French of Mrs. Augustus Craven ON the decease of Lady Georgiana Fullerton those whose right it was to have a voice in such a matter agreed in wishing that a Life of her whom they had lost should be written by her dear and valued friend, Mrs. Augustus Craven, the well known author of the beautiful Be'ce't d'eme Sceur. With some relue tance, Mrs. Craven kindly undertook the work. Having been one of those who urged it on her, I could not shrink from the endeavour to make it as light as possible, by taking on myself the re sponsibility of the English version, which, it was felt, ought to appear simultaneously with, or as soon as possible after, the Life in French. The result of that undertaking is the present volume, which cannot claim to be either a perfectly faithful trans lation, or an original work. It cannot claim to be a faithful translation, because the perfect beauty of the French style of Mrs. Craven, like the incom municable fragrance of a flower, defies all rendering.
