"The American Hungates trace descent also from Col. Francis and more recently from Sir Francis, Bart. and Margery, daughter of Charles, Lord Carrington ... "--P. [1] second notebook. Some of their descendants emigrated from England to America. "(There is some obscurity as to the movements of this family after they left Yorkshire until 1747 when they appear as pioneers in the wilds of Virginia, West of the Blue Ridge) ... The first recorded evidence we have of the Hungate family in America is in the Land Office in Richmond, Virginia. Charles Hungate patented two tracts of land. One patent dated, June 5th 1747, conveyed land now situated in Montgomery County, Virginia, some twelve miles or so from where Blacksburg now stands ... We cannot find that William Hungate, founder of the family ever patented any land but we know that he resided with his Bro. Charles. William died about 1754 leaving ... three sons and three daughters."--P. [1] - 2 second notebook. He was married in about 1741. Charles Hungate died in in 1749. Descendants lived in Kentucky, Arkansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, Indiana, Missouri, Illinois, California, Washington, Kansas, Iowa, Montana, Nebraska and elsewhere.
