The Handy Helpers are excited about going to summer campthat is, everyone except Beth Anne. Her parents want her to go to a free camp for children with disabilities. Beth Anne begs them to let her go to camp with her friends. Finally, her parents admit they dont have enough money to pay the camp fees. With help from some of the seniors, the Handy Helpers are able to raise the money Beth Anne needs. So why has Beth Anne suddenly changed her mind and wants to go to the special camp after all? I would give this book a five-star rating because the children are so kind and humble. I love how Beth Anne is generous and selfless to everyone. I would recommend this book to anyone. I love how each story has a moral to them, and shows you how to be a great friend. - Morgan Damschen I think its so sweet how they all really need each other, but some of them dont see it at first because they are afraid of being hurt. But it all works out in the end. I love all the funny little things that happen to all the kids while reading about their escapades. Once I start reading, I dont want to put the book down. - Sadie Mullins I like Spike because hes a lot like me. I think hes funny, and I like how when he does do something he shouldnt, he gets it and makes it right. - Wylie Mullins Its cool to see the way they help each other and have fun doing it. I also like that this series brings up going to church, and that God plays an important role in their lives. Ive grown up going to church, and I can relate to the Handy Helpers making church a part of their lives. I think Handy Helpers is a great series to read and reread. - Sierra Mullins

How a Parkland Dad and 9/11 Brother Faced Tragedy "Don't tell me there's no such thing as gun violence. It happened in Parkland." ―Fred Guttenberg 2020 Nautilus Silver Winner 2021 HEARTEN Book Awards for Inspiring & Uplifting Non-Fiction Finalist! Life changed forever on Valentine's Day 2018 for Fred Guttenberg and his family. What should have been a day of love turned into a nightmare. Seventeen people died at Florida’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Fourteen-year-old Jaime Guttenberg was the second to last victim. “Fred Guttenberg is a hero." ―Lawrence O'Donnell. That Jaime and so many of her fellow students were struck down in cold blood galvanized many to action, including Jaime’s father Fred now a gun safety activist dedicated to passing common sense gun safety legislation. Fred was already struggling with deep personal loss. Four months earlier his brother Michael died of 9/11 induced pancreatic cancer. He had been exposed to too much dust and chemicals at Ground Zero. Michael battled heroically for nearly five years and then died at age fifty. Find the Helpers has a special meaning to the Guttenberg’s. It was a beloved family wisdom learned from watching Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. In the midst of tragedy, "always look for the helpers. There will always be helpers. Because if you look for the helpers, you’ll know there’s hope." ―Fred Rogers, 1999 Healing from grief. Discover the story of Fred Guttenberg’s activist’s journey since Jaime’s death and how he has been able to get through the worst of times thanks to the kindness and compassion of others. Good things happen to good people at the hands of other good people─and the world is filled with them. They include everyone from amazing gun violence survivors Fred has met to former VP Joe Biden, who spent time talking to him about finding mission and purpose in learning to grieve. While Melissa is laid up with the chicken pox, Laura and Amber meet Doris Duncans granddaughter, Beth Anne, who has Down syndrome. They invite Beth Anne to take Melissas place as a volunteer at the senior center. When grouchy Mrs. Henry breaks her hip, the girls are called on to lend a hand. Laura and Amber reluctantly agree and take Beth Anne along. Though shes afraid of Mrs. Henry at first, Beth Anne soon becomes her companion, even helping Mrs. Henry get out of her wheelchair. In the meantime, Melissas jealousy comes into play as Beth Anne asks to become a permanent member of The Handy Helpers. Reader comments I would give this book a five star rating and would highly recommend it to everyone. I like the relationships that each character forms with Beth Anne. I also think some of the situations they get into are so funny but real life like. I love the great moral values talked about in the book. It inspires me to want to start a Handy Helpers group myself. -Sadie Mullins
