DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe Collected Documents of The Group of 77 at the United Nations provides a chronological record of events and documents of the Group of 77 since its creation in 1963. This Fifth Volume assembles a selection of materials pertaining to the Perez-Guerrero Trust Fund for South-South Cooperation (PGTF) which was established by the United Nations General Assembly at the initiative of the Group of 77 in 1983 to provide financial support for projects in various fields of South-South cooperation. It is named after Dr. Manuel Perez-Guerrero (1911-1985) of Venezuela, who was Secretary-General of UNCTAD (1969-1974), and Chair of the Group of 77 in New York during 1980-1981. He promoted the development agenda (particularly South-South cooperation) on a global scale, which became a central feature of the development core mission of the United Nations system.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe Third World's attempt to reform the international economic order sprang to prominence in the 1970s with the onset of the New International Economic Order (NIEO) negotiators. The demise of the NIEO, global recession and debt crises in the 1980s have pushed global economic reform initiated by Third World states to the back of the international agenda in the 1980s. Nevertheless, in face of Western indifference and hostility and increased economic differentiation and disparity, the Third World coalition has remained in existence. The Group of 77 (G77) is the central instrument through which the developing countries have attempted to transform international regimes in trade and payments. The G77 articulates the interests of over 100 countries and functions as the principal collective negotiating instrument of the developing world in international development diplomacy.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKChina's role in the United Nations has been a significant one. Yet, Samuel Kim contends, as far as the literature on Chinese foreign policy is concerned, the People's Republic of China still remains outside the heuristic framework of the global community. In a comprehensive macro-analysis of Chinese global politics, Professor Kim probes China's image and strategy of world order as manifested through its behavior in the UN. The author draws upon a wide range of previously untapped primary sources, including China's policy pronouncements and voting record and over a hundred personal interviews with UN delegates and international civil servants. He finds that Chinese participation has made the United Nations not only more representative but also more relevant as the global political institution responding to the challenge of establishing a more humane and just world order.
