Achimota College was the headquarters of the West Africa command, from where the Royal West African frontier force was organised. Secondly, British resident ministers, sent to the Gold Coast by Churchill's government to coordinate the war effort in West Africa, had their offices at Achimota. Achimota was also a key educational institution in West Africa, and led to the establishment of the University College of the Gold Coast at Achimota in 1948.
