Excerpt from The Entomologist, 1897, Vol. 30: An Illustrated Journal of General Entomology Of some kind 2 I asked. No, was the reply; their function is unknown, but they are said to communicate with the exterior of the wing. If we turn to the illustrations generally found in books on cryptogamic botany, we will probably find figures representn the conjugation of certain fungi, that bear so close a resemblance to these mother-cells, that I am tempted to regard the latter as the sexual organs of the fungi found on the wings of certain butter ies. The conjugating cells of Erysiphe and Eurotium are cases in point; but all this is conjectural. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.

Excerpt from Report of the Entomologist and Botanist, 1897 The Awnless Brome Grass having proved to be very successful in all parts of the Dominion, about 600 l-pound samples were last spring sent out to farmers in all the provinces. Such reports as have been received up to the present are, almost without exception, enthusiastic in their praises of this valuable grass. A special interest has been added to it lately by the discovery that it is particularly well suited for cultiva tion on alkaline patches where little else will grow. During the year several thousands of specimens of plants and insects have been sent in for identification from naturalists in all parts of the Dominion. From these col lections several valuable additions have been made to the Experimental Farm museum. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
