If a promissory note be signed and sent to the payee with a blank for him to insert the amount, it is good evidence on the plea of nil debet. Jordan v. Neilson, 2 Wash. 164. What Is Equivalent to Blank Indorsement.--An indorsement by one of two payees of a negotiable note to the other by which the indorser "assigns and transfers all right, title and interest" in the note to such other is equivalent to a blank indorsement of the note, and carries with it the consequences of an indorsement without restriction or limitation, and can not be varied or contradicted by evidence of any contemporaneous parol agreement between the parties. Citizens' Nat. Bank v. Walton, 96 Va. 435, 31 S. E. 890. Effect as Transferring Title.--A blank indorsement of a note is sufficient to vest a title in the holder, though it be not filled up before the judgment. Rees v. Conococheague Bank, 5 Rand. 326. But a blank indorsement upon a note, docs not per se transfer a title, but is an authority for the holder, either to hold it as the agent of the indorser, or to claim it as his own by assignment, at his election, without any further act to be done by the assignor.
