DOWNLOAD EBOOKStudienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2006 im Fachbereich Medien / Kommunikation - Forschung und Studien, Note: 1,3, Technische Universit t Dresden (Institut f r Kommunikationswissenschaft), 52 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Everybody who reads a magazine, watches television or goes to the movies realizes that sex is omnipresent across all media. The messages about sex and sexual issues transmitted to the people can have positive or negative themes and they raise questions about the effects they can have on the behaviours and attitudes of the recipients. Especially for young persons, the media are an important source of information about sexual issues, but sexual messages can also have a negative impact on their mind. In comparison to research on the impact of violence in the media, research on the impact of sexual portrayals and sexual content is little. The discussion about sex and sexism in the media, research on sexism and the effects and impact which sexual messages can have on one's mind will be the focus of this work. It is important to distinguish three main fields of research of sexism in the mass media. One great field of concern is research on gender-stereotyping and gender-bias in the media. The second great area of research is focusing on the effects that (verbal or visual) sexism in the media can have on one's mind. The third field at least focuses on more explicit media contents such as erotica or even pornography. This work in the following is structured on these three areas of research.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKMale and Female Violence in Popular Media brings into focus the apparently symmetrical phenomena of men's violence against women and women's violence against men, explaining the profound differences in their actual features as well as in their representations, which over the last few years have been proliferating in a vast array of global media contents. Elisa Giomi and Sveva Magaraggia consider popular media including crime TV series such as The Killing (Denmark, 2007- 2012), The Fall (UK, 2013-2016) and True Detective (USA, 2015), factual entertainment such as Who the (bleep) Did I Marry? (Investigation Discovery, 2010-2015), and Italian pop music in order to examine popular culture's depictions of men and women in their opposite, yet complementary, roles of perpetrators and victims. They reveal how TV shows, pop-songs, news and commercials that populate global audiences' daily life fuel false beliefs about love and sexuality that either legitimate or stigmatise violence depending on the perpetrators and victims' gender.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKNasty Women: Media Portrayals and Treatment of Women provides readers with a comprehensive examination of the portrayals of women in mass media that appear to be divided along gender, race/ethnicity, social status, age, disability, sexual orientation, and body image. The book also covers how women's privileges, disadvantages, and exclusions are treated in the media. How have women been misrepresented and mistreated in today's mass media venues? Women's changing roles in American history and politics, as well as their roles in news stories as experts and credible and reliable sources, are a few of the subjects found in dedicated chapters. Other chapters provide insights into: 1) the challenges faced by women who identify as LGBTQIA+; 2) research on depictions of violence against women; 3) media portrayals of women as victims or perpetrators of violence; 4) how women's bodies are imagined in mass media content; and 5) portrayals and depictions of women starring in popular reality television shows. A discussion on the various "isms," such as racism, sexism, heterosexism, colorism, lookism, and body-ism, are further introduced to readers, as are the theories of feminism, theories used in mass communication research, social psychology theories, and queer theory. Nasty Women is an instructive and necessary resource for courses in sociology, mass communication, journalism, women's and gender studies, graduate programs, and other social sciences disciplines that focus on media effects, culture, and society.

She critiques both the male bias of current theory and the debilitating dominion held by notions of "proper femininity" over women and their bodies in patriarchal culture.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKWomen have been represented in art, literature, music, and more for decades, with the image of the woman changing through time and across cultures. However, rarely has a multidisciplinary approach been taken to examine this imagery and challenge and possibly reinterpret old women-related myths and other taken-for-granted aspects (e.g., grammatically inclusive gender). Moreover, this approach can better place the ideologies as myth creators and propagators, identify and deconstruct stereotypes and prejudices, and compare them across cultures with the view to spot universal vs. culturally specific approaches as far as women's studies and interpretations are concerned. It is important to gather these perspectives to translate and unveil new interpretations to old ideas about women and the feminine that are universally accepted as absolute, impossible to challenge, and invalidated truths. The Handbook of Research on Translating Myth and Reality in Women Imagery Across Disciplines is a comprehensive reference book that provides an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary perspective on the perception and reception of women across time and space. It tackles various perspectives: gender studies, linguistic studies, literature and cultural studies, discourse analysis, philosophy, anthropology, sociology, etc. Its main objective is to present new approaches and propose new answers to old questions related to gender inequalities, stereotypes, and prejudices about women and their place in the world. Covering significant themes that include the ethics of embodiment, myth of motherhood at the crossroad of ideologies, translation of women’s experiences and ideas across cultures, and discourses on women’s rehabilitation and dignification across centuries, this book is critical for linguists, professionals, researchers, academicians, and students working in the fields of women’s studies, gender studies, cultural studies, and literature, as well as other related categories such as political studies, education studies, philosophy, and the social sciences.
