DOWNLOAD EBOOKAs the first of its kind, this book provides a valuable introduction for scientists and engineers interested in liquid/fluid interfaces and disperse systems to the rapidly developing area of adsorption dynamics. It is the first extensive review available on the subject of dynamics of adsorption and gives a general summary of the current state of adsorption kinetics theory and experiments. Current progress in recently designed set-ups and improved and generalised known methods for studying interfacial relaxations is reviewed. In addition, the role of the electric charge of surfactants in the adsorption process is discussed in terms of a non-equilibrium distribution of adsorbing ions in the diffuse layer.Present theories of the effect of dynamic adsorption layers on mobile surfaces, such as moving drops and bubbles, based on both diffusion and kinetic controlled adsorption models are described and efficient approximate analytical methods to solve the mathematical problem of coupling surfactant transport and hydrodynamics are introduced. The role of a dynamic adsorption layer in bubble rising, film drainage and film stabilisation and in complex processes such as flotation and microflotation is discussed.Containing more than 1100 references, the book is essential reading for industrial scientists and graduate and post-graduate students in physical, surface and colloid chemistry, physico-chemical hydrodynamics, water purification and mineral processing.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKIn the adsorption phenomenon the substances from the external environment the gas or liquid are absorbed by a solid surface (adsorbent). Adsorption is used to separate gaseous and liquid mixtures, for drying and purification of gases and liquids. This reference broadly explores the calculation of the equilibrium and dynamic characteristics of adsorption in porous bodies at the molecular level. Two new theories of statistical physics are presented, both developed by the author for the consistent description of the equilibrium distribution of molecules and dynamics of flows in complex porous materials to be able to solve a wide range of practical tasks in the development of new technologies.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKPhonons are always present in the solid state even at an absolute temperature of 0 K where zero point vibrations still abound. Moreover, phonons interact with all other excitations of the solid state and, thereby, influence most of its properties. Historically experimental information on phonon transport came from measurements of thermal conductivity. Over the past two decades much more, and much more detailed, information on phonon transport and on many of the inherent phonon interaction processes have come to light from experiments which use nonequilibrium phonons to study their dynamics. The resultant research field has most recently blossomed with the development of ever more sophisticated experimental and theoretical methods which can be applied to it. In fact, the field is moving so rapidly that new members of the research community have difficulties in keeping up to date. This NATO Advanced Study Institute (ASI) was organized with the objective of overcoming the information barrier between those expert in the field and those who are new to it. Thus it was decided to (i) organize a set of tutorially based lectures covering most of the important facets in the field, and (ii) to produce an Institute proceedings which would serve both as the first general textbook, as well as a valuable reference book, for this field of knowledge.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKSurface Area Determination covers the proceedings of the International Symposium on Surface Area Determination. The title presents 35 papers that are organized into nine parts; the papers primarily emphasize the methods for surface area determination. The coverage of the book includes methods such as the BET method, low adsorption methods, and flow methods. The text also reviews papers about various types of surface, including heterogeneous surfaces, porous solids, clays, and small area surfaces. The book will be of great use to researchers and practitioners of disciplines that involve surface area determination, such as chemistry, chemical engineering, and chemical physics.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKGiven the rapid growth of engineering fields, namely the food industry with novel food process technologies, novel ingredients, advanced enzyme production and applications, and other complementary technologies, this book will disclose the latest trends in food engineering. This text is a compilation of selected research articles and reviews covering current efforts in research in and application of emerging technologies in the food industry. The chapters in this book are divided into three broad sections. Section 1 deals with introductory information about enzyme application, preserving treatments (such as thermal treatment, active packaging concepts) in a sustainable, cost-effective manner, inclusion in food processing of wild edible plants as a part of cultural and generic heritage, and the upscaling of extraction techniques to increase the bioavailability of bioactive compounds. Section 2 provides data concerning the food industry's emerging technologies. Section 3 reveals the latest trends in food fortification. Overall, this book serves as an inspiring source for both scientific and industrial actors or anyone involved in any aspect related to the food industry.
