Excerpt from The Dixie Ranger, Vol. 7: April 1941 All data concerning acreage, areas, volume, number of plots, etc., are placed in tabular form on the map, so that refer ence to files is unnecessary. Last year a compartment comprising 5560 acres was scouted and then marked. On each of the five operable areas, the marking was found to follow closely the boundaries outlined on the scouting map. In the field, each worker had reference to the scouting map at all times; and time which had previously been spent seeking new operable areas bier the next ridge was put to use in marking time ber; thus greatly increasing the productivity per man. The gross volume marked was within 5% of the scouting estimate. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The Dixie Ranger, Vol. 7: March 1941 I picked up another chronicle of events that happened some years ago. Singularly enough, the same two stories were there. There was the story of a girl named Delilah, who told a gang of Philistine warriors the secret of Samson's strength, and Samson shorn of his strength and blinded was chained to the turnstile that opened the gates of the Philistine stronghold. Excerpt from The Dixie Ranger, Vol. 7: September 1941 The progress of the past seven years in timber management is excellent but, naturally, one cannot be satisfied until every ferest has every acre under an approved management plan, is practicing good Silviculture and is cutting its full timber budget. The first of these objectives, for all practical purposes, has been attained. Plans exist for all areas where important cutting is to be done in the near future, and other areas are covered by policy statements. The second, also, with few exceptions, has been attained. Reason ably good silviculture is being practiced throughout the region. As to the third, the region is over two-thirds of the way there and should be within striking distance in another year. Excerpt from The Dixie Ranger, Vol. 5: November 1939 The day's hunt netted 104 gray squirrels and 7 hogs: The indicated success ratio of only a fraction over 1 squirrel per hunter is not as gloomy as it might appear; some hunters preferred hog hunting to squirrel hunting and the hogs, even though their ancestors were domestic, are difficult to stalk. The hunt looks like it might become an annual affair. Daybreak, November 15, will mark the Opening of the fourth annual Wild Boar Hunt to be held on the Cherokee National Forest in cooperation with the Department of Conservation, State of Tennessee. Two areas, each including approximately acres will be Opened to wild boar hunting. On one, the baying of dogs will be heard; on the other, quiet will reign and the hunters will depend entirely on their personal skill and resourcefulness to make a kill. Guides, local men who have spent their lives in the Tennessee mountains, have made preparations to direct the hunters, and both.man and-dogs are eagerly awaiting the starting signal. Prospects for a successful hunt are good. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
