DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis collection contains 133 lyrical poems of Augustus Toplady. The first section was written during his early years while at college, and the second part was written during the remainder of his life. Included in this collection is the hymn lyrics of "Rock of Ages" which was originally titled "A Living and Dying Prayer for the Holiest Believer in the World." Also the lyrics of "Full Assurance" which begins with "A debtor to mercy alone." Toplady's theology is regarded to be Calvinistic, which he stood for during the controversies of his time. The text of this edition is from Daniel Sedgwick's edition of 1860.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe history of the church is filled with stories. Stories of triumph, stories of defeat, stories of joy, and stories of sorrow. These stories are a legacy of God's faithfulness to His people. In this book, Dr. Stephen J. Nichols provides postcards from the church through the centuries. These snapshots capture the richness of Christian history with glimpses of fascinating saints, curious places, precious artifacts, and surprising turns of events. In exploring them, Dr. Nichols takes the reader on a lively and informative journey through the record of God's providence to encourage, challenge, and enjoy. This is our story--our family history. "THE CENTURIES OF CHURCH HISTORY GIVE US A LITANY OF GOD'S DELIVERANCES. GOD HAS DONE IT BEFORE, MANY TIMES AND IN MANY WAYS, AND HE CAN DO IT AGAIN. HE WILL DO IT AGAIN. AND IN THAT, WE FIND COURAGE FOR TODAY AND FOR TOMORROW."

DOWNLOAD EBOOKWhat is one to make of a man described as 'strangely compounded, peculiarly constituted, and oddly framed'? It conjures up in the mind an image of Stevenson's Mr. Hyde, or Shelley's Frankenstein, or Hugo's Quasimodo. But such is J. C. Ryle's (1816-1900) description of Augustus Montague Toplady (1740-1778), author of what has been called the best-loved English hymn. One wonders why someone would bother writing a biography -- or reading one -- about a strange, peculiar, odd person. Nevertheless, Ryle declared that no account of Christianity in England in the 18th century would be complete without featuring the remarkable Toplady. Bond says that the purpose of the book is to 'pull back the shroud that has covered Toplady, to unmask the caricature that has shaped his memory as merely a raw-boned and harsh controversialist'. The reader is shown what we can learn from Toplady for today.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKIn a world where war is a persistent reality in media and in film, there is a larger, consequential war being waged everyday that is often neglected: the Spiritual war inside of us. Written in the English Puritan era but just as powerful and inspiring today, William Gurnall's timeless epic The Christian in Complete Armour serves as a beautifully written and action-packed spiritual guidebook A call to arms for Christians, Gurnall's expounded sermons on Ephesians 6:10-20 are as practical as they are illuminating. With stunning prose and page-turning excitement, the battle for the soul and the descriptions of the God-given protections and weapons ascribed to the believer are detailed and explained. Gurnall's masterpiece has been inspiring Christians since the 17th century, and has never been as applicable and urgently needed as the present day. Praise of the work: "If I might read only one book beside the Bible, I would choose The Christian in Complete Armour." -John Newton "Peerless and priceless; every line full of wisdom." -C. H. Spurgeon "A beautiful feature in Gurnall's book is its richness in pithy, pointed, and epigrammatical sayings. You will often find in a line and a half some great truth, put so concisely, and yet so fully, that you really marvel how so much thought could be got into so few words." -J. C. Ryle
