Excerpt from The Commemorative Services of the First Baptist Church of Boston, Massachusetts: On the Occasion of the Two Hundred and Fiftieth Anniversary of Its Foundation; Saturday, Sunday and Monday, June 5, 6 and 7, 1915 The purpose to celebrate the two hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the organization of the First Baptist Church in Boston had been firmly fixed in the minds of the members for several years, and plans made in a general and tentative way; but no formal action was taken until October, 1914, when-a general committee was appointed to take the matter in charge and given full' authority to make all arrangements for the proper Observance of the occasion. This committee was divided into Special commit tees with special duties, and work was begun in earnest. Frequent meetings were held and a programme covering three days, June 5, 6, and 7, decided upon, with a preparatory service on Friday evening, June 4, with an address on Memories of Shawmut Avenue to which this Church owes so much of its life and strength.
