DOWNLOAD EBOOKExcerpt from The College-Bred Negro American: Report of a Social Study Made by Atlanta University Under the Patronage of the Trustees of the John F. Slater Fund; With the Proceedings of the 15th Annual Conference for the Study of the Negro Problems, Held at Atlanta University, on Tuesday, May 24th, 1 In 1900 the Atlanta University Negro Conference made an investigation of the college graduates among Negro Ameri cans. The study received widespread publicity and did much towards clearing up misapprehension in regard to educated colored people. Ten years later we return to the same investigation aided by an appropriation of from the Trustees of the John F. Slater Fund. The results are based on college catalogs, letters of officials and the reports of 800 Negro graduates. This is, therefore, far from an exhaustive study, but it has much value.
