DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis book tries hard to answer some question of life and the phenomena of consciousness; indeed, it answers some questions, but it raises more questions. Thus, for this book, it is just a wakeup call, awaking people that there is a huge hidden theoretical space behind physics; for this hidden space, there are a lot of investigations which are needed to be done. Particularly, I hope this book could remind people: other than the crystal world which is governed by physical rule; there is the non-crystal world which is governed by order of nature (negative entropy, advance thermodynamics). Here, for the brain science, for the bio-medical research, the research work is faced serious challenge; people are searching for new direction. The approach of (QM/AT) could provide the new imagination for such search.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKNational Book Award Finalist: “This man’s ideas may be the most influential, not to say controversial, of the second half of the twentieth century.”—Columbus Dispatch At the heart of this classic, seminal book is Julian Jaynes's still-controversial thesis that human consciousness did not begin far back in animal evolution but instead is a learned process that came about only three thousand years ago and is still developing. The implications of this revolutionary scientific paradigm extend into virtually every aspect of our psychology, our history and culture, our religion—and indeed our future. “Don’t be put off by the academic title of Julian Jaynes’s The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind. Its prose is always lucid and often lyrical…he unfolds his case with the utmost intellectual rigor.”—The New York Times “When Julian Jaynes . . . speculates that until late in the twentieth millennium BC men had no consciousness but were automatically obeying the voices of the gods, we are astounded but compelled to follow this remarkable thesis.”—John Updike, The New Yorker “He is as startling as Freud was in The Interpretation of Dreams, and Jaynes is equally as adept at forcing a new view of known human behavior.”—American Journal of Psychiatry

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis discussion resulted from a dialogue which began some seven years ago between a physicist who specializes in astrophysics, general relativity, and the foundations of quantum theory, and a student of cultural history who had done post-doctoral work in the history and philosophy of science. Both of us at that time were awaiting the results of some experiments being conducted under the direction of the physicist Alain Aspect at the University of Paris-South. ! The experiments were the last in a series designed to test some predictions based on a mathematical 2 theorem published in 1964 by John Bell. There was no expectation that the results of these experiments would provide the basis for developing new technologies. The questions which the experiments were designed to answer concerned the relation ship between physical reality and physical theory in the branch of physics known as quantum mechanics. Like most questions raised by physicists which lead to startling new insights, they were disarmingly simple and direct. Is quantum physics, asked Bell, a self-consistent theory whose predictions would hold in a new class of experiments, or would the results reveal that the apparent challenges of quantum physics to the understanding in classical physics of the relationship between physical theory and physical reality were merely illusory? Answering this question in actual experiments could also, suggested Bell, lead to another, quite dramatic, result.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis compilation of twenty-six scientific papers and philosophical essays expands the mind-body problem of the French philosopher and mathematician René Descartes. We expose the nature consciousness; we discuss its origin and manifestations in living organisms. We distinguish it from life and elaborate on human existence on Earth. From there, we solve the ancient enigma posited by Epicurus, the Greek philosopher. In science, we take over Schrodinger’s works on the body’s entropy and use the research of the Japanese Nobel laureate Yoshinori Ohsumi to explain how non-living atoms transition to living molecules, Francis Crick’s faded dream that becomes reality. We delve into the living organisms to explain various losses of consciousness and awareness, including sleep, syncope, and death. We mainly focus on sleep to elucidate this mystery that no living organisms escape.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis essay is an attempt to reconcile the disturbing contradiction between the striving for order in nature and in man and the principle of entropy implicit in the second law of thermodynamics - between the tendency toward greater organization and the general trend of the material universe toward death and disorder.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe modern materialist approach to life has conspicuously failed to explain such central mind-related features of our world as consciousness, intentionality, meaning, and value. This failure to account for something so integral to nature as mind, argues philosopher Thomas Nagel, is a major problem, threatening to unravel the entire naturalistic world picture, extending to biology, evolutionary theory, and cosmology. Since minds are features of biological systems that have developed through evolution, the standard materialist version of evolutionary biology is fundamentally incomplete. And the cosmological history that led to the origin of life and the coming into existence of the conditions for evolution cannot be a merely materialist history, either. An adequate conception of nature would have to explain the appearance in the universe of materially irreducible conscious minds, as such. Nagel's skepticism is not based on religious belief or on a belief in any definite alternative. In Mind and Cosmos, he does suggest that if the materialist account is wrong, then principles of a different kind may also be at work in the history of nature, principles of the growth of order that are in their logical form teleological rather than mechanistic. In spite of the great achievements of the physical sciences, reductive materialism is a world view ripe for displacement. Nagel shows that to recognize its limits is the first step in looking for alternatives, or at least in being open to their possibility.
