DOWNLOAD EBOOKExcerpt from The Church and the Churches: Or, the Papacy and the Temporal Power; An Historical and Political Review As it is possible this book may fall into the hands of many but little acquainted with the claim which the Author has upon the attention of the learned in every country, it has been deemed advisable to collect some materials respecting his antecedent biography. The life of an author is to be found in his works; and it will be seen by the subjoined narrative that the years of Dr. Dollinger have been crowded with events; and that each of these reflects honour upon him as a theologian, a scholar, and an historian, as a man of deep research and of original thought. Dr. Dollinger was born at Bamberg, on the 28th February, 1799, and educated at Wurzburg. After several years passed, first at a curacy in Franconia, and as Professor at the Ecclemastical Seminary of Aschaffenberg, he was, in 1826, appointed one of the Faculty of Theology in the new University of Munich. The results of the French Revolution were felt in the youth and early manhood of Dr. Dollinger. Rationalism was everywhere predominant.
