DOWNLOAD EBOOKFisheries, recreation, transportation, mineral extraction ... the world's seas are subject to an incredibly diverse range of uses. Hitherto these have generally been considered on a use by use basis, with a multiplicity of separate organisations involved in government, private and voluntary sectors. The Development of Integrated Sea Use Management looks at the moves towards integrated management of these conflicting uses and of their environmental impacts. Three key starting points for integrated management are identified, namely, the theme of maritime boundary delimitation which governs the allocation of sea space among states; the management of individual uses, which remains a cornerstone upon which integrated management can be built; and the regional basis of integrated ocean management. The content ranges widely over detailed case studies within each sphere, in both developed and developing countries, and from coastal estuaries to the deep ocean.

The most important legal instrument for that discussion is undoubtedly the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea which entered into force on 16 November 1994, some twelve years after it was adopted in December 1982, and following more than nine years of negotiations, which began in 1973"--

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis book has its genesis in materials collected in the Hestern Central Atlantic region in preparation for a regional seminar on the Changing Law of the Sea and its Implications for Fisheries in the Hestern Atlantic. The Seminar, which was organised by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the UN and funded by the Norwegian government, was held in Havana, Cuba, 1980. Most of the materials were gathered by the authors as a result of direct contact with the fisheries authorities of the region, and supplemented where possible by information obtained from public sources for the remaining countries not visited. Twenty seven countries in the region were visited, and the authors were able to obtain materials much of which is not readily accessible except in the individual countries. In writing this book, the authors have become indebted to many people for their advice and assistance. He wish to thank in particular the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations for permitting use to be made of papers submitted to the Havana seminar, and to the following members of that Organisation: L.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKIn 1982 the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea was signed by a number of countries. For many smaller countries, such as the island states of the Caribbean, the significance of this major law reform movement became apparent in terms of expanded economic benefits, e.g., expanded fishery resources and offshore energy supplies. However, the responsibilities of expanded ocean jurisdiction also became apparent, as did the geopolitical controversies surrounding it. This new volume in the Lecture Notes on Coastal and Estuarine Studies presents the reader with the results and synthesis of a major study undertaken by the Ocean Studies Programme of Dalhousie University in the Eastern Caribbean on the New Law of the Sea with special attention to marine pollution, coastal zone management, international law, marine transportation, maritime boundary delineation and ocean development.

DOWNLOAD EBOOK"Describes the basic rules governing the environment in the jurisdictions of the 15-member states of the Caribbean Community with a particular emphasis on those in the British Commonwealth. This one-of-a-kind coursebook explores relationships between the environment and traditional legal subjects, such as international and constitutional law, contracts, torts, and trusts; and undertakes a detailed examination of such specific topics as town and country planning, environmental impact assessments, pollution regulation, management of wastes, protection of endangered species and habitats, and coastal zone management. Justice Anderson provides a detailed analysis of the relationship between international trade and environmental protection. He also demonstrates how international law is the primary driver of domestic regulation and illustrates its influence on municipal law. This book reflects the policy aspirations of the Caribbean people toward the environment"--Page [4] of cover.
