Excerpt from The Canadian Entomologist, Vol. 53: September, 1921 As we were were returning from Rosedale on one of these early trips, I called my companion's attention to the barking of a foxterrier in the dis tance; after locating the sound, he stared at me incredulously for a moment and then remarked scathingly A nice one you are in the country, and not know a crow when you hear it! And a crow 1t proved to be, but how. Different: with its short, Sharp, staccato challenge, of ca, ca, from the English rook and its lazy drawl of c'aa, caa! Excerpt from The Canadian Entomologist, 1896, Vol. 28 In addition to the great work that we have just referred to, Mr. Edwards has contributed largely to the periodical literature of science. Especially to the Proceedings and Transactions of the American Entomo logical Society and the canadian entomologist. His first contribution to our pages was published in the third number of our first volume, in 1868, and be has continued to favour us with articles of great value ever since 3 his last paper, in the September number of Volume XXVII., being the one hundred and sixty-eighth which he has written for our journal. Excerpt from The Canadian Entomologist, 1876, Vol. 8 Last year, at our annual meeting, I took the opportunity of calling your attention to many fields Of Entomological labour that are now all but unexplored in this country. May I repeat that there is ample scope for the exertions Of all our members, whether they care only to form collections Of specimens, or prefer to devote their labours to the unfolding Of the life-histories or the study of the classification of insects? There is plenty of work remaining to be done even in the favourite orders of Lepidoptera and Coleoptera, to say nothing of the others that are not so generally studied or collected. It would be a valuable contribution to our store of knowledge were lists of the Canadian species of all orders of insects to be formed, and presented to the Society for publication and at the same time a revision made of those published some years ago. Excerpt from The Canadian Entomologist, 1922, Vol. 54 In the case of this species, the length of flight coupled with the fact that 'hoppers often leave succulent fields. Has an important bearing on control measures. It means that when the residents of some one territory have been delinquent in control measures, and those of some other territory have waged a successful campaign, the parties of the first instance may cause the reinfestation of the fields of the parties of the second instance and upset some of their good work. Also farmers in infested areas do not well understand the outcome of such an extensive migration and either grasp at the hope that all their 'hoppers will leave or believe that poisoning is useless. Thus a control campaign may be demoralized at just the time operations should be continued with intensity. Observations on Flight and Relation of Weather Conditions to Such. Excerpt from The Canadian Entomologist, Vol. 37: January, 1905 Lime alone will destroy Psylla perhaps as completely as with sulphur added, and will go a long way in cleaning off the black fungus, but lime alone will not destroy scale insects, and' these are invariably present. Whether it be lime, or lime and sulphur that is used, the wash must be liberally applied, for it will not diffuse, but remains where it strikes the tree, and if the Psylla is to be killed it must be hit.
